Hypernova, the studio behind Mayanagari, has reportedly shut down

Hypernova Interactivea Bangalore-based studio that developed Mayanagari, is reportedly set to close. Resources close by GamingonPhone confirmed it.

Hypernova’s shutdown is attributed to development costs

The information was first shared by Rishi Alwani, an Indian gaming market analyst, via a post on X. The reason he shared was that the studio was unable to sustain development costs or secure funding.

However, the co-founder of Hypernova, Mayur Bhimjiyani, clarified the matter. When called by IGN India, he said “there’s more to come”, a skeptical response by all accounts. This also does not answer the essence of the matter.

Additionally, it is also reported that one of the co-founders has moved on to a new project with another development studio, while Hypernova Interactive has had to lay off all of its employees as part of the shutdown.

Mayanagari promised to be a spectacular gangster game with an Indian theme

Well, in case you didn’t know, Mayanagari has been promoted as a GTA-inspired gangster game based in India. Inspired by real locations in Bombay and Goa, Mayanagari focuses on the rise of a budding criminal to become the city’s biggest gangster.

The game features Hindi language, Bollywood-style motion shots and third-person shooter action with five types of weapons. Over ten story-driven missions, drive over 15 different Indian vehicles and a property management system to buy houses and build empires.

I still believe we should wait for official confirmation before jumping to conclusions as the game is still available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store for Android users. If there is any official confirmation that Mayanagari has closed, I will update this space, so keep an eye out for it.
