Brittany Higgins wedding held on Saturday at The Valley Estate in Queensland

Former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins will marry David Sharaz at one of Australia’s most exclusive and elegant wedding venues.

The couple are set to tie the knot on Saturday at the stunning The Valley Estate in Currumbin Water, about 25km south of the Gold Coast.

The couple, who have moved to France, will exchange vows after Mr Sharaz proposes in Byron Bay on New Year’s Eve 2022.

The Valley Estate boasts an elegant red brick ‘mansion’, chapel and jetty, and an open terrace with fountains and beautiful lawns.

“The Manor is a bright and incredibly beautiful space with dramatic arched windows and grand chandeliers,” according to the venue’s website.

“A space where industrial influences and textures come together.

“There really is no better place to hold your reception – a place where memories are made.”

The venue also hosts several ceremony venues, including a non-denominational chapel and lakefront pier.

“Valley Estate Chapel is wildly charming, modest and exquisitely finished,” the website states.

“Antique oak benches and leaded glass windows frame spectacular views of the hinterland.”

The venue has been featured in many media outlets including Vogue and Ocean Road Magazine.

A few hours before the couple were to tie the knot, Mr. Sharaz shared a brilliant post with his wife-to-be.

Sharing a screenshot of a text exchange between the pair, where the then Sky News producer mistakenly sent a photo of Ms Higgins to himself, he wrote: “He accidentally sent the girl I had a crush on… her photo. “

“A few years later and we’re getting married! Romcoms do exist.”

In the exchange of texts, Mr. Sharaz tried to cover up his mistake before admitting he had intended to show a friend what Ms Higgins looked like, but had mistakenly sent her a picture instead.

Mrs Higgins replied: “Hahahaha. This is unbelievable.”

The happy day comes after years of turmoil for Ms Higgins after she was raped in Parliament by disgraced Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann.

In a much-watched ruling in Mr Lehrmann’s defamation case against Ten Network, Judge Michael Lee found on a balance of probabilities that Mr Lehrmann raped Ms Higgins.

Lehrmann has maintained his innocence and filed an appeal of the federal court’s findings Friday night in which he will represent himself.

Ms Higgins is also in the middle of another defamation suit brought by former defense secretary Senator Linda Reynolds.

Ms Reynolds is suing Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz over their social media posts in which the senator claims her reputation was damaged.

Mr Sharaz announced in April that he wanted out of the legal battle because he could not afford to finance the proceedings.

The defamation case is set for trial on July 24 after peace talks failed to reach an agreement during mediation sessions in May.

Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz moved to Lunas in the south of France in December 2023, about a year after the Commonwealth awarded her $2.4 million in damages.
