French security authorities foil a plan to attack soccer events during the Paris Olympics

PARIS: French security authorities have foiled a plan to attack football events during the upcoming Paris Olympics, France’s interior minister said on Friday. It was the first such thwarted plot aimed at the Games, which begin in eight weeks’ time, when France is at its most dangerous. Gerald Darmanin said in a statement that members of the Directorate General for Internal Security arrested an 18-year-old man from Chechnya on May 22 on suspicion of being behind a plan to attack soccer events to be held in the southern city of Saint-Etienne.
