Saudi Red Crescent supplying 10,000 medical kits for ambulances during Hajj

RIYADH: Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha recently met with Uzbek Senate Speaker Tanzila Narbaeva in Tashkent, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.

During the meeting, which covered various regional and global issues on the OIC agenda, Taha praised Uzbekistan for its rich cultural and scientific heritage, noting that the OIC City of Tourism award given to Khiva, Uzbekistan for 2024 is a recognition to the Government of Uzbekistan. efforts to develop the tourism sector and present this heritage.

He expressed gratitude that Uzbekistan hosted the 12th Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers in Khiva on June 1-2, which, Taha said, “will make a significant contribution to the promotion of tourism and cultural exchange among OIC member states.”

Taha also acknowledged Uzbekistan’s socio-economic progress and noted its important efforts for regional socio-economic integration.

Regarding Palestine, the OIC leader emphasized efforts to stop Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, as well as the need for an immediate ceasefire and the provision of adequate and lasting humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

Regarding Afghanistan, Taha praised Uzbekistan’s role in promoting peace, security, stability and socio-economic development, as well as providing humanitarian aid.

Taha and Narbaeva also discussed the OIC’s initiatives to combat Islamophobia and anti-Islamic sentiments, stressing the importance of promoting Islamic principles of peace and tolerance through education, interfaith dialogue and media awareness.

In addition, the meeting discussed socioeconomic and development programs aimed at education, scientific cooperation, sustainable development and poverty reduction.

They also discussed cultural cooperation with a focus on preserving and promoting the heritage of OIC member states through publications, exhibitions and cultural exchanges.

Narbaeva expressed Uzbekistan’s support for various OIC initiatives and emphasized active cooperation with the OIC in areas ranging from culture and heritage to youth and women’s empowerment.

During his visit to Uzbekistan, Taha also met with the country’s foreign minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov, and discussed a number of international issues.
