Royal North Shore Private Hospital: Hospital evacuated after gas line rupture

About 40 people had to be evacuated from TAFE and a hospital in northern Sydney after a suspected gas line burst.

It is understood a contractor was working on Westbound Street in St Leonards and allegedly ruptured a gas line, causing the leak at around 3.30pm today.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson told Newswire that no one was injured and the gas company quickly turned off the gas.

“The area has now been declared safe by the Fire and Rescue Service and the site has been handed over to NSW Police,” it said.

People at nearby TAFE Hospital and Royal North Shore Private Hospital were evacuated for safety.

More to come.
