Phone call behind Prince Harry’s high-profile absence at close pal’s wedding

New details have emerged as to why Prince Harry will not be attending his close friend’s lavish wedding in Britain later this week, after he was reportedly left off the guest list.

The announcement that Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, was set to marry his fiancee Olivia Henson months ago quickly sparked speculation about how the sensitive issue of Harry and his estranged brother, Prince William, would be handled.

The couple grew up with the Duke – or “Hughie” as they know him in their inner circle – and is even godfather to Harry and Meghan’s son, Prince Archie.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be at home in California when the exclusive society wedding takes place in Chester, England, on Friday – while the Prince of Wales was honored to be a best man at the ceremony.

Kate, the Princess of Wales, will not be attending the event due to cancer treatment.

There are conflicting reports about whether it was Harry or Hugh who ultimately decided he shouldn’t be there on the big day, but according to the British Timeswas the result of a phone call where the two had a “civilized understanding”.

When Harry’s impending lack of attendance was first reported last year, a friend of the feuding brothers described the situation as “incredibly sad”.

“It’s incredibly sad that this has come to this. Hugh is one of the few close friends of William and Harry who has maintained strong ties and a line of communication with both of them,” the source said. Times.

“He wants her to put her head together and make things right, but she knows that probably won’t happen before the wedding. He wanted to avoid anything that would overshadow the day, especially for Olivia’s sake, and he doesn’t want any awkwardness.’

There are no signs that tensions between Harry and William have eased, with the latter reportedly still fuming over his brother’s harsh public criticism of himself and Kate since stepping down from royal duties.

Meanwhile, Harry’s absence from the Duke of Westminster’s wedding may be the most high-profile, but he’s not the only member of the royal family unable to attend.

King Charles, who is the duke’s godfather, is also likely to miss the opportunity. The monarch, who recently returned to public engagement while undergoing cancer treatment, will travel to France a day earlier with Queen Camilla and William for the D-Day commemoration.

Regardless, it’s still on track to be a huge event, with over 400 guests expected to attend the wedding at Chester Cathedral.

Following the service, guests will attend a lavish reception at the nearby 11,000-acre Grosvenor estate, Eaton Hall, the couple’s new home.

On June 8, there will be a second, more intimate reception at the same venue.
