Sam Neill, Heather Mitchell confront one another over their past break-up

It’s been decades since they were briefly together, but now Jurassic Park star Sam Neill and Australian actress Heather Mitchell have openly discussed why they didn’t work out.

Interviewing each other for the last issue StellarNeill, 76, asks Mitchell, 66, if she felt at one point they were “boy and girl?”

The duo met in 1985 and have been friends for 40 years. Little is known about their romantic relationship.

Despite their constant contact over the years, it seems both of them are still confused as to why they broke up so many years ago.

“The more important question here is: why did we break up?” Neill asked Mitchell, saying the duo had “never discussed it” before.

“Well, I have my version and you have yours,” Mitchell replied, adding, “I’ve always wanted one [discuss it]. I think I did something that upset you. I don’t remember what it was.”

Neill, however, remembered things “differently”.

“We were both invited to a party and for some reason you were mad at me,” the actor said.

“So I came excited to see you—and you wouldn’t talk to me. He wouldn’t even look at me.”

Mitchell felt the same way, believing that Neill was mad at her.

“I thought you were mad at me!” she said.

“Maybe we’d still be together if we’d talked about it earlier.”

Mitchell has been married to cinematographer Martin McGrath for more than 30 years, and the couple have two grown-up children.

Meanwhile, Neill has a son with actress Lisa Harrow, whom he met in 1980.

He later married make-up artist Norika Watanabe in 1989, and the couple had a daughter. Neill also adopted Watanabe’s daughter from his first marriage before the couple split in 2017.

In an interview with Sydney Morning Herald last March, Neill said he was a “lonely single man.”
