You Can Sign Up To Test Mortal Kombat 1 Now

Mortal Kombat 1 is not so far away, it should be here on September 19. That said, we haven’t had a real look at the gameplay yet, with the reveal trailer focusing on the timeline reset and this new look at the characters we’ve known and loved for 30 years. But now fans are getting a chance to try out the game for themselves before the beta pre-order even starts, allowing you to be among the first to get your hands on the new MK.

Of course, since this isn’t a beta test, you won’t get the immersive, polished experience that fans expect closer to launch. Instead, your job will be to stress test Mortal Kombat 1’s online multiplayer game so that NetherRealm can get the servers up and running on launch day. While this means the experience is unlikely to be smooth, it will still allow you to play the game – even if we don’t have a test date yet.

You need a Warner Bros. account to sign up. and a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S to try out the game (spotted by Insider Gaming). For whatever reason, the stress test isn’t coming to PC and Switch right now, even though the game is launching on both platforms. This could mean that the PC and Switch versions of the game will have their own online lobbies, with cross-play limited to PlayStation and Xbox. That was the case with Mortal Kombat 11, so it’s not too surprising.

While it’s meant to push online gaming to the limit, you’ll actually be able to try out Mortal Kombat 1’s single-player offerings – even though you’re logged into the online servers. This will include Classic Tower arcade mode and 1v1 vs. AI. Of course, you will also be able to compete with other players in online matches.

Signing up doesn’t guarantee you a spot on the tryout, but it does at least put you in the running for a spot. Of course, if you’ve already pre-ordered, then you’ll be guaranteed your place in the August beta, which is likely to be much more stable than what we get every time the stress test goes live.

According to the Warner Bros. website this test is open to everyone in North America, Latin America, Brazil and Europe. It’s unclear if it will open up to other players before the game launches in September, or if it will come to PC and Switch.

Meanwhile, NetherRealm won’t give us a proper look at MK1 gameplay. The battle reveal is set to premiere at Summer Games Fest on June 8.
