14 Things To Do After Beating Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Over the years, Pokemon games have been criticized for lacking content, especially in recent years when considering the game. Once you’re done with the story and become a champion, there’s usually not much left to do. In this regard, Scarlet and Violet seemed promising as they had an open world and different story paths.

14 Back-to-back games in the gym

Pokemon Scarlet Violet Gym Leader Iono prepares for battle

This feature has been included in many games in the series, especially the newer entries. Fortunately, Scarlet and Violet follow this trend, allowing you to go back to previously defeated Gym Leaders and face them again, but this time go all out on them.

Fortunately, this time you can skip the gym puzzles and go straight to the gym fight. Each leader has an expanded team with new Pokemon at higher levels, so prepare accordingly with your strongest team.

13 Academy Aces Tournament

The Pokemon games sometimes have an infinite battle option that you can enter after the main game is over. Unfortunately, this is missing from Scarlet and Violet, who instead have an Academy Ace tournament. This is an elimination tournament that you can enter after beating the main game organized by Director Clavell.

In this tournament, your goal is to defeat four trainers from across the region, selected from a pool of thirteen. While no less than the fighting capabilities of past games, the tournament is a fun way to test your team against higher-level opponents. The team compositions in the tournament are decent and the levels are high enough to present some challenge.

12 Find and capture the treasures of the Quartet of Ruins

As with any Pokemon game, there are many legendary Pokemon to meet and secrets to uncover in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. A string of legendary performances comes in the form of the Ruin Quartet. These four Pokemon are very interesting Pokemon with amazing stats and amazing signature abilities, so they are definitely worth catching.

Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu and Chi-Yu are also sealed behind vaults for unknown reasons. This means you’ll have to collect stakes to even meet them. Be sure to read their Pokedex entries to learn some sad stories about their origins as well.

11 Complete the Pokedex

We’ve all done it or dreamed about it. Regardless, completing the Pokedex is a franchise-wide tradition at this point. Fortunately, Scarlet and Violet are among the best games for this due to the nature of open world games.

Being able to see Pokemon roaming around in the open world makes this task easier, as you don’t have to run through grassy areas hoping to randomly encounter the Pokemon you’re looking for. In addition, the smaller size of the Pokedex makes this task a bit easier, since you only need to collect 400 Pokemon.

10 Complete the Living Pokedex

So you’ve completed your Pokedex, now what? If you want to take on the ultimate challenge of collecting Pokemon, consider striving for a complete living Pokedex. A living Pokedex means you have one of every individual Pokemon in the game, from Sprigatito to Miraidon, plus all forms and gender differences, in your box.

Having a living Pokedex is a difficult task that will put your collecting skills to the test. Still, if you’re up for it, it can be incredibly satisfying to watch your boxes slowly fill up with every Pokemon in the game.

9 Hunt Shinies

Another thing that fans are very excited about is finding and catching glitter. For the uninitiated, glowing Pokemon are a slightly different color than their base form, such as the iconic red Gyarados. However, shiners are extremely rare, so if you intend to hunt for one, be prepared to spend quite a bit of time.

Glitter hunting is a chore best saved as a background activity, something you’ll do passively while listening to an audiobook or watching a TV series. Despite how great the reward is, the effort is definitely worth it in the end.

8 Collect all the Gimmighoul Coins

Game Freak did their best to implement some of the open world design philosophies from the genre. Obviously, this includes tons of collectibles. Gimmighoul coins can be found all over Paldea and once you have 999 coins you can evolve your Gimmighoul into a Gholdenga.

There are a few ways to collect these coins. You can capture or defeat a Gimmighoul in the wild, find a wandering Gimmighoul that doesn’t fight, receive a donation from a janitor, and check out glittering cities around the world. Collecting 999 coins will take some time, but it’s definitely worth it for the golden surfer.

7 Learn every sandwich recipe

Sandwiches are a key feature of Crimson and Purple, allowing you to craft food that provides powerful buffs while you explore. By using sandwiches, you can increase your chance of finding certain types of Pokemon, increase the experience your party earns, and even increase the likelihood of Shinies appearing.

To reap all these benefits, your first step should be to learn all the sandwich recipes. Stop by each of Paldea’s ingredient shops, stock up, and start cooking, as learning all 151 recipes will definitely take some time.

6 Tera Raids challenge

As you travel around the Paldea region, you’ll encounter Tera Raids where you can find Pokemon with Tera types that are different from their normal types. Pokemon with useful Tera types can be great for some battles, but that’s not the only reward you can earn here. You’ll also get tons of useful items like EXP candies, food ingredients, and bottle caps.

Six-star Tera Raids are quite difficult to complete on your own, so you’ll need to prepare a variety of different Pokemon to deal with these raids. In addition, the Tera Raids event occasionally occurs where exclusive Pokemon can be challenged and caught. These battles will require a lot of planning to overcome, as they offer one of the trickiest end activities in Scarlet and Violet.

5 Return to Area Zero and match the Legendary cover

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Koraidon and the wheel-shaped Miraidon

Koraidon and Miraidon are unique legendary heroes that stick with you from the start and serve as your loyal steed. After beating the game, you can finally use their battle form and use them in battle. However, since they are still your mode of movement, you cannot put them on PC or ride them in their battle form.

Fortunately, after beating the game, you can revisit Area Zero, where you’ll encounter another Koraidon or Miraidon, depending on your version. You can catch it and use it just like a regular Pokemon, or trade it with another player in an opposing game for its Legendary cover.

4 Complete every academy course

The Crimson and Purple Academies of Orange and Uva are an often overlooked aspect of the games, but can provide some unique rewards if you know where to look. At the Academy, you can study several different subjects, each taught by a different character that you can learn more about as the lessons progress.

By completing all the Acadamy courses, you can befriend the school’s teachers, learn about key game mechanics and features, and even win some unique items. If you’ve run out of other things to do in Scarlet and Violet, don’t forget about school!

3 Dip your toes into competitive combat

Now that you’ve beaten the game, completed the Pokedex, and mastered every mechanic there is, it’s game over, right? Well, that’s where ranked battles and competitive Pokemon come into play.

Although leagues are more complex than single-player adventures and sometimes much more frustrating, exploring the competitive side of the game is a way to endlessly enjoy the game. This could be intimidating for newbies, but getting better at team building and forecasting is extremely rewarding.

2 Try Nuzlocking on another save

Pikachu from the anime passed out in the stadium

If competitive Pokemon isn’t your cup of tea, you can always make the game more challenging yourself. Nuzlocke Challenge is a set of rules that you set yourself to make the game more exciting. The basic rules of the challenge are that any fainted Pokemon is considered dead and cannot be used, and you can only catch the first Pokemon you encounter in each area.

Scarlet and Violet are open world games, so these rules are a bit silly, but there are tons of variations you can find online to test your fighting prowess. If the game starts to feel boring or repetitive at any point, Nuzlockes are a great way to spice things up.

1 Download Pokemon from Pokemon Home

Pokemon Home version 3.0.0 update added functionality with Scarlet and Violet. This means that any Pokemon you’ve transferred to Home can now move to Scarlet and Violet if they’re compatible.

While not every Pokemon in existence is portable, many fan favorites, such as starters from the Galar region and the Hisuian form, are compatible. These Pokemon open up a whole new realm for team building and Tera Raids, and even encourage you to play other games like Sword and Shield or Legends Arceus to collect them all.
