Baldur’s Gate 3 is slated for a full release this August, but that doesn’t mean we have to wait that long to delve into the world Larian created. Immediately following the announcement of a new villain, the pre-launch campaign continues as the developers release a free-to-play online murder mystery game – though it will be up to the entire community to solve it.

In Blood in Baldur’s Gate, fans come together to decide how to approach the investigation of a murder in the city of Baldur’s Gate and vote on where to look for clues next. So far, one area has been unlocked, giving players a visual description of what we can see and hear in that location and giving us clues as to where to look next. The poll on what our next move should be will end in about four hours, giving us another part of the city to explore.

Blood in Baldur’s Gate takes place 15 years before the events of Baldur’s Gate 3 and revolves around the murder of an elf in a harbor. For now, this is the only area we can explore, as the game gives us a description of the crime scene and two options where we can continue the investigation.

Our options are Fisher’s Whaft or Admiral’s Way. Both seem like good choices, given their proximity to the murder scene and the fact that there are likely witnesses at both locations. However, the murder scene notes mention a bloody boot print going to Fisher’s Whaft, so that gets my vote.

Right now, all we can do in the game is read this short piece of text at the crime scene and vote on the next area. However, there is an inventory system, so it seems like it will become more involved as more of the map opens up to us. But we can’t see the poll’s progress, so it’s unclear where we’ll go next.

If that’s not enough for you, then don’t worry, the full release of Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t a million miles away. It will be available for PC and PS5 on August 31st, after years of early access on Steam.
