- All Recipes In A Wonderful Life
Though you’ll be selling the majority of the crops and animal goods you have in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, you ought to save some of your items for use in cooking. Whether to replenish your own hunger meter or just to aid in making new friends in Forgotten Valley, practice makes perfect when it comes to cooking in A Wonderful Life.
In our guide down below, we explain not only how to cook in A Wonderful Life, but we go into the benefits of cooking, and list every recipe in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. Bon appetit!
Cooking Basics
Cooking in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is as simple as having the right ingredients and bringing them to the kitchen in your house.
Although your kitchen grows and upgrades as years pass – you add onto your house in time – the kitchen functionality is available from Spring One.
Your first kitchen is simple, but it’s enough to make the simple dishes you learn early in the game.
Early-game recipes will include basic ingredients, typically only one or two. As the game goes on, though, your kitchen grows in subsequent years, bringing with it new possibilities.
Beginning in Year Two, you’ll have a Refrigerator at home. Like the Food Storage outside, the fridge can store crops, edible foraged goods, fish, and animal products.
The difference between them, though, is that you can use items in your Refrigerator when cooking without getting them out.
While you begin cooking using items in your inventory, the Refrigerator functions like Food Storage you can access right from the stove.
Why You Should Be Cooking
Not only will your farmer become hungry periodically as they work hard in the field, but meals are great gifts when you’re befriending your neighbors in Forgotten Valley.
When it comes to you eating what you’ve made, bigger meals restore more of your hunger meter, as may be expected. A full plate of Mushroom Curry, for example, is more filling than a bowl of Milky Soup.
But for the townsfolk, you’ll find that everyone has a preference in what meals they’ll accept.
Some of them take almost any meal, while others have categories of meals they prefer. You may even come across characters who won’t take dishes with certain ingredients.
Fish is the most common revulsion you’ll find, with a few characters rejecting meals with fish as an ingredient.
Keep a variety of meals on you to befriend the people of Forgotten Valley that much faster!
How To Cook
When you’re ready to cook a meal, you’ll have two options when you interact with the stove: you can use ingredients to make a new dish, or, if you’re already familiar with the dish you’d like, you can also cook from recipe instead.
When using ingredients, you have your choice of up to three ingredients, which can be anything in your fridge or anything edible in your inventory.
Not all combinations will give you a successful dish. If you’re not keeping something you’ve made, or it didn’t come out well, you’ve also got a trash can in which you can dispose of ruined meals.
To play it safe, there’s no shame in cooking from a recipe you’ve learned!
When you choose to do this, you’ll select the category of your meal, then choose the meal from that category.
You’re then taken to the actual cooking screen. Ingredients you can use are highlighted, while incompatible ingredients are faded out and cannot be selected.
You don’t need to choose the items in the order of the recipe – the game will slot the qualifying ingredient to the right place in the recipe for you.
Once you’re all set getting your ingredients selected, you can then cook multiples of a dish, so long as you have the ingredients for said number.
The game will not let you begin cooking more than the dishes for which you have the ingredients.
Different kinds of fish don’t stack, nor do crops of different grades. If you have different fish or crops, you’ll need to manually make the recipe each time, selecting the different item each time in order to make multiples.
Since meals don’t have different qualities, meals stack even if they use different ingredients in the recipe – as long as the name is the same, it stacks.
For example, Milky Soup made with Normal Milk (B) and Milky Soup made with Normal Milk (A) will both stack, as they end up simply as Milky Soup in your inventory.
If you’ve cooked more than you want to carry, you can store dishes in the Refrigerator indoors or Food Storage outdoors to keep them safe and your inventory clear.
How To Unlock New Recipes And Categories
Recipes can be found all over Forgotten Valley and may be obtained in a number of ways:
- Visit the Nature Sprites up in the Forest by eating the Weird Mushrooms to enter their home.
- Until they’re out of new recipes to give, you can get one new recipe every day for the first several years of the game.
- Check the notes and books in the townsfolks’ homes, which you’ll typically find on fridges or tables when you visit.
- These often contain new recipes, even if it’s just a list of ingredients and not the actual name – you’ll need to make those yourself at home to get the name unlocked.
- Talk to your neighbors, who will occasionally recommend a recipe.
- They usually ask if you know how to make it, and saying no will coerce them into teaching you the recipe for said dish.
- Accept Bulletin Board requests for requests where you don’t have the recipe yet. If this happens, you’ll learn the recipe upon accepting the request.
- You get started on this early, with a request for Milky Soup on your first day in town to get you started with some recipes.
At the beginning of the game, you only know how to make soup and salad dishes. Don’t be intimidated – new chefs never start with the fancy stuff!
The more you cook, the more confident you become with cooking. And as your cooking skill increases, you’ll begin to unlock new categories.
In total, you’ll have categories for Soup, Salad, Hors D’oeuvres, Desserts, and Entrees in your recipe book, each with several recipes to make and enjoy.
