We're running out of ways to make fun of this, so let's get straight to the point: Bethesda just re-released Skyrim.
Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 with its own dedicated upgraded edition. Anyone who already owns the Switch version of Skyrim can access this new and improved edition as a free upgrade, so you may not need to put any money into this latest build.
Skyrim: Anniversary Edition Shadowdrops on Nintendo Switch 2 and the upgrade is free if you had it on Switch
The gameplay trailer is what you'd expect – the Switch version of Skyrim, but runs better. There's also some Creation Club content, including Nintendo items exclusive to the Switch.
There's not much to discuss here, but it's worth noting that this version of the game will support Switch 2 mouse controls, so you can feel a little more like a PC gamer. However, one area where you won't feel like a PC player is the modding scene. There are no signs of console mods being added to Nintendo platforms anytime soon, although they have been available on PlayStation and Xbox for some time.
Another thing we can glean from this release is that Bethesda likes shadows. This is no surprise, because they save on marketing. Apparently The Elder Scrolls is big enough for Bethesda to make their own announcements too, so it saves money getting a slot at something like The Game Awards.
Bethesda made a big splash this year with the shadowdrop of the long-awaited Oblivion Remastered. Although not officially announced, its existence has been confirmed through leaks. Even then we knew very little about it until we had it in our hands. We can probably expect more shadowdrops for similar releases – perhaps even for the leaked Fallout 3 remake/remaster.
