Although an extraction shooter at its core, ARC Raiders has walked a tightrope between its PvP and PvE elements since its launch. While ARC Raiders has grown in popularity largely due to its accessible gameplay loop, there is a large difference in the use of PvP combat in the community where some players would prefer to keep the game PvE only. This division led to the implementation of an aggression-based matchmaking system ARC Raidersand now it seems to have also prevented another feature from being introduced.
As ARC Raiders continues to grow, it's likely that more changes will be made to balance its PvP and PvE elements. The upcoming nerf to the popular PvP weapon Stitcher is just another example of how Embark has let off the gas in the PvP game. The next morning until ARC RaidersPvP fans, the developer has made it clear that a leaderboard feature will almost certainly never be implemented into the game, and both sides of the community debate about PvP or PvE are divided.
'It can be a huge benefit for players' ARC Raiders boss defends controversial use of AI
Embark Studios CEO Patrick Söderlund defends the use of AI in ARC Raiders, urging players to “step back” and understand how it can help developers.
ARC Raiders will likely never get ranked, Embark CEO confirms
According to a recent interview with GamesBeat's Dean Takahashi, Embark CEO Partrick Soderlund expressed his thoughts on adding a player kill leaderboard system. ARC Raiders. Soderlund argues that a leaderboard like this would lead to a greater emphasis on PvP gameplay, upsetting the delicate balance that ARC Raiders tried to cultivate. Community reaction to this information has been mixed, however, and both sides have strong arguments.
Benefits of ranking in ARC Raiders
-
Other extraction shooters have this feature
-
It encourages players to come back and improve their standing
-
It complements the existing scoreboard for trial versions
Player kill leaderboards are nothing new in extraction shooters like games Hunt: Showdown 1896 tracking rankings for stats like Banishing Streak, Total Bounties Collected, and Kill Streak. While ARC Raiders doesn't yet have a reward system, it could offer a variation of these types of PvP stat trackers, such as players killed or kill streaks, to encourage new gameplay opportunities in matches. Thanks to aggression-based matchmaking, it's already there ARC Raidersincluding a PvP focused leaderboard wouldn't break players who tend to stick to PvE and are generally friendly to other raiders.
ARC RaidersTrials already include a leaderboard tracker so players can compare their standing with others in the weekly PvE challenges on offer. Adding a similar leaderboard for PvP would be a nice addition ARC RaidersTrial version for players who are more interested in playing the game for PvP.
Disadvantages of ranking in ARC Raiders
-
It encourages an overemphasis on PvP
-
Fraudsters are likely to fill the top spots
On the other side of the coin, the PvP leaderboard has some drawbacks ARC Raiders he rightly evades by avoiding this function. The apparently mentioned issue of supporting more PvP gameplay is a criticism of the game trying to balance PvE alongside it. But another possibility with the addition of a leaderboard for PvP is that it will be filled with cheaters who take the top spots with impossible to beat scores.
ARC Raiders already allows players to see their individual kill stats via the in-game codex, so a leaderboard that tracks those stats would only serve to create competition between PvP players who ARC Raiders' Matchmaking based on aggression can be difficult to filter out. This might not be the worst idea in the long run, but it's not a necessary feature for a game with a community that's already split between PvP and PvE gameplay. In the end, Embark probably made the right decision to stay out of the PvP rankings ARC Raidersbut there may be room for a watered-down version of the feature that still entices PvP players to make its way into the game in the future.
