Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynchronized Cutting 1's iconic feature is a logical progression from AC Shadows

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynchronized is currently one of the worst kept secrets in the gaming industry. Until Ubisoft makes an official announcement, any talk of a long-awaited remake should be met with a healthy dose of skepticism. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynchronized may be one of the potential 2026 releases I'm most looking forward to. Yes, I'm also pumped for a lot of new games. Resident Evil: Requiem, Saros, Marvel's Wolverine, Control: resonantand GTA 6 are at the top of my list but Black flag is my favorite Assassin's Creed game. I am not alone in this thought. Every fan has a different opinion about their favorite, but see a lot Black flag as the highlight of the series.

Rumors and others Black flag remake has been swirling around the internet for a long time, but last year was the moment when it was more real than ever. A series of leaks – and even hints from voice actor Edward Kenway – have attracted a lot of attention. In September, fans were even treated to one of the biggest video leaks to date from Jeuxvideo. The outlet claimed that all modern scenes from Black flag would be scrapped Black flag re-synced. This was really divisive information. Honestly, I was pretty upset when I heard about it myself. After thinking about it, I realized that this is not such a surprising choice.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynchronized Saying goodbye to modern scenes only makes sense after Shadows

Spoilers for Assassin's Creed 3.

When Assassin's Creed Shadows was released last year, marked a big change for the franchise. Instead of interweaving the history-focused plot with the modern story, Ubisoft decided that all future modern stories would be found in the Animus Hub. The modern plot threads were a huge piece Assassin's Creed brand and I personally really love current moments. However, it is hard to deny that since the killing of Desmond in Assassin's Creed 3.

Killing Desmond was a huge mistake

Don't get me wrong. Introducing Layla Hassan Assassin's Creed: Origins she was a solid replacement, but the hole left by Desmond's death was great. He was the original heart of the modern story. His narrative didn't lead to the satisfying modern-day climax I assumed would happen, and worse, Ubisoft didn't really have a solid plan for where to go with this part of the story after his death. In 2024, former Ubisoft developer Marc-Alexis Coté even admitted, “It was a tough decision to end Desmond's arc, and then the modern story struggled to find its footing.” The Animus Hub presents an opportunity to rework the modern narrative to make it more cohesive. Keeping the two separate might not be a great idea forever, but hopefully the Animus Hub will allow more focus on those specific plot points until things get stronger.

Cutting modern scenes in Black Flag presents some challenges

The Black flag re-synced the leaks don't really make it clear whether the modern parts will be found in the Animus Hub or not. I hope they are. If they aren't, it would require some rewriting. The Black flagModern scenes involving the observatory are directly connected to its discovery in Edward Kenway's story, so leaving them out would definitely be controversial. There are some big pros and cons to rewriting parts of a story. There is also the possibility that only certain parts of the modern narrative will be cut instead of the whole thing. However, for the sake of argument, let's assume that 100% of these scenes are edited. A remake would need something to replace such a large chunk of cut content, and leaks from Jeuxvideo have revealed a silver lining that could Black flag re-synced even more interesting.

Ending Desmond's arc was a tough decision, and after that the modern storyline struggled to find its footing.

According to Leaks, Black Flag Resynchronized's scrapping of the modern story will make room for the cut content

The potential exclusion of modern stories is troubling, but it also has a bright side. If this is true, then Mary Read is expected to be more Black flag re-synced. Mary Read should have played a bigger role Black flag in general, but her storyline was shortened due to pacing issues. If Ubisoft rewrote some parts of the story to not replace any modern moments, then it could ultimately help the pacing issues that hindered the larger Mary Read narrative from the original game. Read was an interesting character that many wanted to see more of, while traipsing through a fake game studio through the current segments wasn't something everyone enjoyed. As such, swapping out the modern segments for Read's story could be a huge benefit, and has the added benefit of allowing new players to jump straight into the game without being thrown into a modern story they don't understand.

Other changes rumored to be coming to Black Flag have been re-synced

  • The game is said to have the same map but more activities.

  • Loot and equipment changes.

  • Reworked game and RPG systems to be more in line with recent ones Assassin's Creed games.

An Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynchronized Announced seems imminent

Ubisoft has remained tight-lipped about the remake, but there's plenty of evidence pointing to a March release date. There is an unnamed game that is scheduled to be released before the end of Ubisoft's fiscal year, which is March 31st. Also the domain name registered for Black flag re-synced was discovered. While the company hasn't said anything official, all signs seem to point to a Black flag re-synced announcement very soon.

While the signs look promising, it's important to remember to keep expectations in check. i really want Black flag re-synced come out this year and I'm far from the only one. There's no way to know for sure until Ubisoft confirms it definitively. Once the announcement is finally made, it will be fascinating to see if the leaks about the truncated modern content are true or not. If true, it's bound to spark a controversy. Assassin's CreedThe modern story is a compelling story, but it may ultimately be best for the developers to focus on it separately outside of the main games to create a more consistent story. Either way, the return to life of Edward Kenway will be a welcome return to one of the best entries in the series.
