A demo for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch life simulator Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream appeared on the Nintendo eShop back on March 25th, but fans are deliberately avoiding the main gameplay mechanic to drag things out as long as possible: dressing up their Miis. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is the latest in Nintendo Switch and Switch 2's large library of Life sims, and fans are dying for the April 16th release date to finally arrive.
The long-awaited sequel to the 3DS cult classic Life of Tomodachi brings Nintendo's player avatars, Miis, back to the spotlight for the first time in a long time. As the manager of an island populated by Miis of their own creation, the player will be able to dress up the Miis, feed them, give them gifts and even watch them fall in love. But what separates Live the dream from games like Animal Crossing or The Sims is just how surreal the game can feel. However, if a player jumps into the game's demo, they can miss a lot of the absurdity, so fans have become careful not to trigger the end of the demo.

How to avoid the infamous “Lobotomy” in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Demo
As WeirdHumanBeing (@weirdbeingg) shares on Twitter, if a player completes the tutorial in Tomodachi Life: Living the DreamIn the demo, Miis will be placed under “house arrest”. In other words, they will stop leaving their homes to interact or play with their gifts and will only talk about why the player should buy the retail version of the game if spoken to. However, if the player stops right before completing the tutorial, the Miis they created will still roam around the island, chatting with each other, receiving gifts, and more.
To keep Miis from isolating themselves in their homes, players can go so far as to craft a third Mii in the demo. After creating the third Mii, the first Mii will have a “Trouble Bubble”. Players should not click on this problem bubble because the Mii will make them open the “Where & Wear” clothing store, which will lock them into buying something and dressing the Mii. From there, the Miis will stay at home, fiber-gifted or not, only willing to accept gifts and chat about the wonders of the retail version Live the dreamwhich is released on April 16.
So, to make the demo work as long as possible, there are 2 main options: either don't make the third Mii, or don't click the first Mii's problem bubble if you make the third Mii. If the player creates a third Mii, the first Mii will not leave the house of their own volition, but they can still manually drag them outside to interact with others and even get seamless dialogue. But once the clothing store is built, it's over.
It makes sense that the demo for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream would be so short and have such a strict cut-off point. The main appeal of the game is seeing how the Miis interact, so letting the player have a lot of the islanders progress too far would defeat the point of the demo. Nintendo wants people to buy the full game, so naturally they've made sure that the demo doesn't include the parts that fans are really excited about. Still, it's disappointing that players can't at least craft more Mias to experiment with the face painting system, even if they have to wait until the full release to actually add them to the island itself. Mii Colleague game Miitopia Allow players to craft as many Miis as they wanted in the Switch demo, but store the extra Miis in a sort of “storage” so they couldn't appear in the actual story until the player bought the full version.
Even if the player avoids the clothing store, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream the demo is very limited. Only 3 Miis can fit on an island, relationships can't progress beyond crushed, and there's a set number of Mii problems to solve. However, this little taster of the game has done its job as players refuse to build Where & Wear first in order to continue playing the show. From what is known about the full version Live the dreamfans have a lot to look forward to.
