Baldur's Gate 3's Honor Mode has more than double Divinity: Original Sin 2's completion rate

After the reveal of Divinity, many took to the last game in the series, Divinity: Original Sin 2. At first glance, it looks and plays a lot like Baldur's Gate 3, although it runs on Larian's own ruleset rather than Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.

However, there is another key difference between these games: Divinity: Original Sin 2 is much harder. Okay, maybe that's a little subjective, but so many of us have complained about it kicking our ass at this point that I think there's some merit to that argument. In fact, we now have stats to back it up, all thanks to Honor Mode difficulty in both games.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 has an honor mode just like Baldur's Gate 3, only much harder

According to Steam achievement statistics, only one percent of players have beaten Divinity: Original Sin 2 in Honor Mode. By comparison, Baldur's Gate 3's Honor Mode has a 2.9 percent completion rate. It's a bit closer on PlayStation, with BG3 leading by just 0.1 percent, but on Xbox it leads by a full two percent.

For those of you not in the loop, Honor mode is the hardest difficulty. If activated, you only have one save slot and once you're dead, you're dead.

While these numbers won't be exact (it doesn't include players playing offline or on GOG for example), it does show a clear pattern of a larger percentage of players eventually beating BG3 on this difficulty mode, as opposed to D:OS2. This is despite D:OS2 launching years before BG3.

I'm sure none of you who played both games were really surprised by this. Simply put, D:OS2 is hard. Even the starting area of Fort Joy throws some curveballs at you if you don't know what you're doing. It's also much less beginner-friendly, and unlike BG3, you can't customize your party whenever you feel like it, because at some point you're locked with whoever you brought with you.

Don't let this put you off Divinity if you've only played BG3 as it looks like it will be a good starting point. No word on when Divinity will be ready, but in the meantime D:OS2 just got a shiny next-gen update if do want to try it.
