Battlefield 6 developers comment on declining player count

Battlefield 6 the developers “hope” players will either return to the shooter or experience it for the first time when its big Season 2 update launches later this week. Although it is the best selling game of 2025, Battlefield 6 has continued to experience a rapid decline in player numbers over the past few months, and developers Battlefield Studios seem to be well aware of this decline as the team says they are anxiously biting their nails ahead of Season 2's release.

In 2025, the publisher did it with the release Battlefield 6is receiving rave reviews and rising to the top of the most played games on Steam. The latest entry in the series peaked at over 747,000 concurrent users on the platform as fans praised the latest Battlefield game as a return to form. Unfortunately, its post-launch support has seen a huge drop in players, at least on Steam, with a recent user review score dropping to “mixed”.

Battlefield 6 Devs Hoping Season 2 Increases Player Count

While Battlefield 6With more than 700,000 concurrent players plunging into the title on Steam alone when it first launched, recent weeks and months haven't been too kind to the shooter. Since its release in October 2025 Battlefield 6 has lost 89% of its player base on Steam, and Battlefield Studios developers seem to be well aware of the decline. According to CharlieIntel on Twitter, the developer told them the team is biting their nails ahead of Season 2's release this week. “Now the trailer has dropped, the schedule has dropped, we're all sitting in our chairs biting our nails a little bit,” the developer told them. The unnamed developer then says that he “hopes” as many players as possible will return to the game or check it out for the first time when Season 2 comes out.

2nd season Battlefield 6 will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on Tuesday, February 17, bringing new content to the shooter and its free-to-play counterpart Battle Royale, Battlefield REDSEC. Players will be able to check out a new multiplayer map known as Contaminated, which takes place on a German airbase in a European mountainside. There's also the return of the iconic Little Bird helicopter from Battlefield 3new weapons and more.
