Battlefield 6 reveals changes coming in Season 2

EA revealed all the quality of life changes and big updates that are coming Battlefield 6 once the second season launches later this month. After the initial wave of excitement from the various betas and launches Battlefield 6that positive momentum has seemingly stalled as EA tries to get things back on track. Various player frustrations and controversies have unfortunately had a negative impact on the player base, although with Season 2 just around the corner, there is optimism that things can turn around.

The wait was a bit longer than originally expected Battlefield 6 Season 2 was delayed by EA in early January, extending Season 1 by almost another month. The extra time is being used to further develop and improve Season 2's content based on community feedback, although it is currently unknown if some of the larger player requests, such as larger maps, will be implemented or if they will be able to implement this in future seasons. While the actual content of Season 2 is still unknown, EA has begun to reveal many of the gameplay changes coming in the next major update.

What to expect from Battlefield 6 in 2026

Battlefield 6's first season may have been a mixed bag, but it's the game's support in 2026 that will truly determine its fate as a live-service title.

Battlefield 6 Season 2 Updates and Improvements

In a new community update, the Battlefield Comms account published a lengthy blog post about what major updates are coming in Season 2. In terms of content, the post confirmed that the first map of Season 2 is contaminated, which seems to support the recent Battlefield 6 leaks at the center at Hagental Air Force Base in Germany. In fact, the new story trailer not only confirms the location, but also hints at a new limited-time game mode that EA says “introduces a new element of tactics in the fight against the Pax Armata.” The post goes on to tease more variety coming in the second half of the season with a “high intensity” map and a limited time mode that features an underground base shrouded in darkness.

Season 2 also brings with it key improvements that EA has detailed, including broader challenge requirements that de-emphasize specific game modes, expand what counts towards each challenge, such as taking assists into account, while completely removing some of the more frustrating challenges, such as using sidearms to kill.

The community has previously raised issues with the Battle Pass progression Battlefield 6they commonly call it too slow. In response, progression in Season 2 was re-tuned to be more rewarding and allow for faster progression through gameplay and weekly challenges. Not only that, the weapon and career earning rates have also been increased for those who stick to the REDSEC and Gauntlet modes, helping to make for a more balanced progression overall. Not only that, Career and Battle Pass boosters have also been added to some earlier career levels.

Following on from recent Battlefield 6 Update, player movement sees more improvements in Season 2. Soldier movement has been improved to make it more “predictable and readable” during combat, including acceleration curves, smoother arching and ladder transitions, and fixes for visual inconsistencies and unexpected traversal behavior.

Finally, EA also highlighted further improvements to weapon recoil compensation, while auto weapons also had a wide tuning pass to ensure they felt different in their specific roles. The sound effects have also been polished by the development team to be clearer and more reliable during matches. Specifically, clearer motion cues, better processing of overlapping sounds, and more reliable playback of important audio during combat.

While all of these items can be expected at the launch of Season 2, EA also gave fans a look at what's still in development at Battlefield Studios. This includes items like netcode, hit registration, ping system, visibility, and other audio enhancements to things like footsteps. Battlefield Labs is also used for the community to test game changes before they go live to ensure they are what players want. The upcoming Contaminated map recently went through a series of tests, and now the Golmud Railway map is the current focus of testers, with a redesign planned for sometime in a future seasonal update.
