Best Minecraft Auto Farms

Quite possibly the most impressive game of 2010, Minecraft focuses heavily on player creativity in construction as well as exploration, both above ground and deep underground. Unfortunately, with any survival, resource gathering and farming is inevitable.

Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to worry about having to manually harvest crops or hunt enemies for their drops, but instead wake up every morning with chests upon chests of food and items? Well, you can, and it's a lot easier than you think! This list will cover basic autofarms in Minecraft to take some of the burden off your shoulders.

Updated January 31, 2026 Zoë J. Osik: We've updated our list to include even more farms to help you gather resources, as well as notes on which farms are compatible for both Bedrock and Java editions of Minecraft! Not all of these farms will work for Bedrock, but chances are there are alternative farm setups you can use to achieve similar goals.

Mud blocks are more valuable than you might think in Minecraft. It is used in making adobe blocks and can be made into clay if placed over a stalactite, which is great if you didn't start in a biome where clay is abundant. Apart from aesthetics, it is also vital in automated bamboo and sugarcane farms, as hoppers can pull items over it.

A Minecraft image of three different farms, all designed to be aesthetically pleasing. The first contains hanging lights and plants, the second is a circular field with a central farmhouse, and the last is a large greenhouse full of crops.

Minecraft: 21 Best Aesthetic Farm Designs

Here are the best aesthetic farm designs in Minecraft!

This farm requires quite a lot of bottles, which in turn will require a lot of sand to make glass. However, the results are worth it if you need a lot of clay for brick blocks, terra cotta or other brick products. Especially if you didn't start in a clay rich biome.

AFK fish farm

A chest and a block of water surrounded by hatches. Ahead above the lava hole is a blue banner.

Fishing is easy to turn down. After all, it is quite time-consuming even under optimal conditions, and what you get the most for it, the fish, is much more efficiently obtained by going into the water and spearing them yourself.

But a glance at the loot table shows that it could be worth the time and effort, as you can get an enchanted book, rod or bow, as well as name tags and saddles, which are mostly found in structures and monster spawners. And with this farm setup you even reduce the time investment by automating the catching mechanism or even fully AFK.

Notably, this is one of the few farm buildings that only works in Bedrock, since you can't catch treasures in Java that way.

Spider Farm

A stone room with a tunnel of spiders that cannot move towards the player. In Minecraft, there is a chest in front.

Spider attacks are so common that you might think you'll never run out of spider eyes and the string they drop. But you'll find that with their myriad uses—from decoration to potion brewing, villagers—you'll be short more often than not.

If you've found yourself in this situation and needed to go into a cave to farm these creepy crawlers, you may have been lucky enough to find a spawner. If so, jackpot! Follow this short and simple guide to build your own spider machine for quick and easy spider parts.

Stone farm

Machine for making stone from stone bricks and lava. The player stands on top in Minecraft.

Every new player has probably had a stage in their Minecraft journey where they had chests full of cobblestones, so creating a farm dedicated to collecting them probably sounds ridiculous since they are literally more common than dirt.

However, the humble cobblestone, block of stone that can be fused into, and smooth stone that THAT can be fused into have many uses from simple tools to redstone gadgets. Plus, as your builds get more ambitious, you'll find that you end up missing even the most common blocks.

Whether you need more stone or just don't want to tear up the landscape around you for material, this is a great farm to produce infinite stone. It's also simple to make, requiring only a small excess of bucket and hopper iron to make it work.

Village car crop farm

A farm run by villagers consisting of four plots of land surrounded and divided by smooth stone walls, with a glowing stone in the center of each in Minecraft.

Growing some crops is quite useful whether you are farming or not. They are an easy, plentiful and renewable source of food and some of them even have more interesting uses like carrots for night vision potions or beets as a rich source of red dye.

However, it can be difficult to drop what you are doing to harvest an entire field and replant it, but with this build you can employ some villagers to do your work for you. Once you build this farm, you can throw away your farming hat for good and only come back occasionally to collect your loot.

Dried Algae + XP Farm

Machine to fuel kelp blocks, consisting of smooth stone, double chests, hoppers and kelp behind the class, among others in Minecraft.

It works in Java

If you've ever set up a base near a temperate sea (not warm, cold, or very cold), you may notice that Kelp is quite abundant, and if you've even thought to sniff it, it makes a pretty decent fuel source.

Note: The lever and smoker trick also works with the furnace and blast furnace, no matter what you're melting. This means that in operations where you have a furnace backup straight into the chest, you can collect XP without breaking them.

With this farm you will only need three algae to seed it and it will eventually become a self-fueling farm as you will end up generating more dried algae blocks than will be used as fuel. This excess dried seaweed can be used as fuel for other operations, but more importantly, it can be traded with Fishermen Villagers for some easy emeralds. As a nice bonus, you'll also get a lot of XP from this operation.

Golden Farm

One of the big constants since update 1.16 is the gold farm. Now, these are generally massive farms that are considered a bit more high-end, but there are ways to create smaller, less intensive versions of them. The most ideal way to do this is to get to the roof of the Nether, an area that can be penetrated with an Ender Pearl.

Gold Farms will have Turtle Eggs trapped in the middle, which will aggressively attract Zombie Pigmen only to kill them. Since Zombie Pigmen drop gold, this is a fantastic way to quickly farm a relatively rare ore. The process is automated thanks to hoppers and chests. This is less effective on Bedrock and may require you to dig under the lava to gain the height you need for multiple levels.

Froglight Farm

Frog Lights may not be essential to gameplay, but they are some of the funnest lights and the sound they make when you break them is very satisfying. They are also very easy to mass produce if you want to give a great atmosphere to a large building.

To get all three colors, you'll need all three frog species, each of which must hatch in a different biome temperature. You'll also need to start this farm in the Nether, as that's the only way to spawn Magma Cubes, which are also necessary, namely basalt deltas.

28

Wither Rose Farm

You'll definitely want to farm this if you want to build auto-kill farms later in the game, like for larger mobs that drop cool loot. Wither Roses cause Wither affliction when touched by any mob, making them super strong in tight spaces.

Place them in funnels for large groups of enemies to destroy them effectively. This farm must be built on Enda, below Ender's Dragon's Nest because of the Bedrock blocks. It helps keep the Wither in place, which is what spawns the Wither Roses. Many snow golems will die for this cause.

Nether Wart Farm

Potions are incredibly useful at any stage of the game, providing night vision when searching huge caverns, learning to slowly sink at the end, or storing your precious loot when you fall into the lava in the Nether. All of these potions require a Netherwart.

Although just one wart will make three potions, if you plan to automate the process, you'll end up needing a lot. Now, this farm isn't automatic when it comes to planting Netherwart, so you'll still need to drop them into Soul Sand to get started.
