Fast forward to Boruto and Shikamaru was an advisor to Naruto, the Seventh Hokage. His job was to make sure the Hokage didn't make any rash decisions that would affect the safety of the village. After Naruto was sealed, Shikamaru became Hokage which was a terrible decision. While Shikamaru is smart, he lacks the essence of what makes a Hokage a Hokage. He is not someone who would willingly put his life on the line. For this reason, one cannot help thinking there are other characters that would be better candidates.

Sakura Haruno is one of Naruto's greatest heroes. She was a member of Team 7 and played a key role in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Without Sakura's help, there is a good chance that the heroes would lose and the world would once again fall into the hands of Kaguya Otsutsuki.

In terms of strength, Sakura is the strongest female ninja in the series. Training under Tsunade helped Sakura better understand her weaknesses and instead of competing with Naruto and Sasuke, she decided to focus on her own strength. Sakura improved her chakra control and learned how to use it to increase the power of her attacks. Sakura's immense control also makes her almost immune to Genjutsu.

Aside from her strength, Sakura is a fearsome ninja who will defend her village and her loved ones at all costs. She risked her life several times to protect her loved ones. Sakura strongly believes in the Will of Fire and would be 100% better suited to be Hokage than Shikamaru.

Konohamaru Sarutobi has always been an interesting character. When he debuted on the show, almost every fan felt like he was an annoying kid. But in time he won them all over. One of Konohamaru's most notable moments was when he claimed that Naruto would become the Sixth Hokage and he would become the Seventh.

Konohamaru may not be as powerful as most Hokages, but he is definitely stronger than Shikamaru. Konohamaru has mastered the Rasengan, an incredibly powerful technique in its own right. Additionally, Konohamaru has a significant amount of chakra that allows him to fight for extended periods of time.

Konohamaru is the grandson of Hiruzen Sarutobi, one of the strongest believers in the Will of Fire. As a result of his grandfather and Naruto, Konohamaru is also a passionate believer. He wears his heart on his sleeve and never hesitates to help another person. Konohamaru is also willing to throw himself headfirst into a dangerous situation if it allows him to save lives. These traits make him far more skilled than Shikamaru.

Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi Hatake is probably the most legendary Jonin in Naruto. From his first appearance, he was the personified definition of cool. Kakashi doesn't let the situation faze him. He is quick on his feet and able to come up with a strategy within minutes.

When Kakashi had the Sharingan, he mastered it and could use it as well as any other Uchiha. He was actually called “Kakashi of the Sharingan”. Despite losing his Dojutsu, Kakashi continued to improve and came up with a technique called Purple Lightning.

Kakashi had served as Hokage once before, but that didn't mean he couldn't be brought back. It happened when Minato was killed and Hiruzen came to take care of the office. Given Kakashi's experience, he would be an excellent choice and his return would boost the morale of the villagers.

Before the wedding, Hinata Hyuuga was in line to become the next leader of the Hyuuga clan. After all, she was the daughter of Hizashi Hyuuga, the patriarch of the Main Family. Instead, she married Naruto, leaving Hizashi in charge.

Many people have the misconception that Hinata is weak, but that is far from the truth. Hinata has mastered the use of the Byakugan and can easily hit an opponent's tenketsu. She is also durable and can withstand multiple attacks.

What makes Hinata a better choice than Shikamaru is that she is extremely selfless. She will absolutely jump in front of an attack to save someone. Plus it would be really interesting to see another female Hokage other than Tsunade. Furthermore, it would also be the first time that someone from one of the noble Hidden Leaf Clans would serve as Hokage.
