Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most important characters Naruto franchise and the pulse of the main story along with Naruto Uzumaki. Sasuke played a huge role in the main story, both as a villain and ultimately as the savior of the world. That's why fans love him as much as they do and why they expect big things from him in the Boruto series as well.
Unfortunately, Sasuke's fate hangs in the balance Boruto series and currently Ikemoto and Kishimoto keep all readers on the edge of their seats. At this point, Sasuke remains incapacitated, but his fate at the end Boruto the series has already been cleverly explained by both authors.
Sasuke Uchiha turned into a tree in Boruto
Sasuke lost the code during the Timeskip
Sasuke Uchiha had a pretty tough time in the Boruto series. Even though he was supposed to be one of the strongest in the world in this story, Sasuke found himself constantly outmatched by the enemies around him. Sasuke's battle against Momoshiki Otsutsuki required him to team up with Naruto Uzumaki and was later completely outclassed by Jigen. In a fair battle against Ishiki, Sasuke was not the least bit effective and lost access to his Rinnegan immediately after.
After losing the Rinnegan, Sasuke didn't play much of a role in the big fights that took place in the story. His greatest contribution came at the end when he left with Boruto Uzumaki to train him and protect him from the forces of Konoha who considered him a traitor for killing the Seventh Hokage.
During the timeskip, Sasuke Uchiha trained his body as well as his student Boruto Uzumaki and together they reached a new level of strength. They eventually ran into Code and his Claw Grimes. Sasuke put up quite an impressive fight against Code, but ended up being bitten by Claw Grimes, which resulted in him turning into a tree. From then on, Sasuke remained a tree and Boruto Uzumaki vowed to free him again. It's clear that Sasuke's fate hangs in the balance because as things stand, he serves as a power source for Shinju Hidari. It is only after Hidari is defeated that Sasuke Uchiha can officially return to the Boruto series, which means that his return is not in danger to say the least.
Sasuke will be back before Boruto vs Kawaki starts
Sasuke could be back soon
When the Boruto series started and the prologue revealed the destruction of the ninja world, the possibility of Sasuke Uchiha's death came up. fortunately now it has been revealed in the story that Sasuke Uchiha will not die. Sasuke being incapacitated and turned into a tree means he at least avoided death in the Boruto series, which would be the worst for his character.
That means Sasuke has to get back into action sooner or later if he wants to save what's left of his reputation. Since Sasuke's return is intrinsically tied to the defeat of Shinju Hidari, it should not occur at the end of the series, like Naruto's return. Instead, Sasuke Uchiha should return before the final fight of the Boruto series, the intense clash between the brothers on the destroyed faces of the Hokage that was teased in the story's prologue.
In order for Boruto and Kawaki to fight, they must first deal with Shinju. If they deal with Shinju, that means Hidari has fallen and in return Sasuke Uchiha has returned to the story. When exactly this event will take place remains unknown, but Sasuke's return will most certainly happen before the battle between Boruto and Kawaki begins.
What role will Sasuke play after his return in Boruto?
Once Hidari falls, Sasuke Uchiha will finally return. Immediately after his return, Kishimoto and Ikemoto will probably give him the lead role, given the period of absence. Sasuke will likely be on the front lines fighting the remaining enemies.
If Jura is still alive at this point in the story, then it stands to reason that Sasuke will face the threat he poses. If there is another enemy like Otsutsuki threatening the world at this point in the story, then Sasuke will most certainly stand up to them to protect his loved ones. In any case, Sasuke will likely get some attention upon his return, which would also help his reputation among the story's readers.
Sasuke Uchiha will be replaced by Boruto Uzumaki at the end of Boruto
Boruto is Sasuke's successor
As established in the story, Sasuke Uchiha will return before the final battle of the Boruto seriesbut expectations for his character should still be relatively lower. This is not Sasuke Uchiha's story. Instead, it's the story of Boruto Uzumaki and the next generation of ninjas, and as such, Kishimoto and Ikemoto choose to prioritize their character's growth over his. Sasuke's personal character is complete. He redeemed himself for everything he did in the 4th Great Ninja War and saved the world on countless occasions before that. Sasuke has even raised remarkable ninjas in Sarada and Boruto, and it's quite clear that his role as the protector of the world is now officially over.
Sasuke passes the torch to Boruto Uzumaki, his student, and given how much Boruto resembles Sasuke, it stands to reason that he will then oversee the duty of protecting the village from the shadows. Meanwhile, Sarada Uchiha, Sasuke's daughter, becomes Hokage of the village and rules from within. Sasuke can decide at this point to hang up his boots and finally be free for the first time in his life.
After everything he's been through in the Boruto series and everything he's endured throughout his life, Sasuke deserves to sit back and enjoy the mundane things in life for once. At the end of the Boruto series, it is highly likely that Sasuke will retire as a ninja and choose to pursue smaller things in life, which would be a fitting ending for his overall character and something that all fans of the story would absolutely love to see. It's still a long way off, as the Boruto manga is far from over.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 31 will be released on February 19, 2026.
