Call of Duty may surpass Battlefield 6 in player count

Call of Duty HQ is currently ranked as the second most popular game on both the PlayStation and Xbox consoles in weekly player engagement in the US, while Battlefield 6 is on a slight decline across both platforms by the same metric. Although this trend suggests Battlefield 6 can lose momentum faster than its main rival, the comparison is complicated by the fact that more Call of Duty titles contribute to COD Headquarters's performance, with no reliable way to isolate their individual engagement data.

Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 hit the market on October 10 and November 14, respectively. On November 19, Electronic Arts announced Battlefield 6 to be the best-selling shooter of 2025. A report from Circana the other day confirmed this claim, saying that EA's title has become the best-selling game in the US this year after only a few weeks.

Battlefield 6 is finally here, and one particular feature seems to be taking a page out of the Call of Duty book, and not in a good way.

Call of Duty HQ maintains second place as Battlefield 6 slips to #7 in US activity

a month later Battlefield 6 he is believed to have lost significant steam. That's according to some new insights from Circana CEO Mat Piscatella, who recently shared the latest weekly chart of the most popular games in the U.S. Circana estimates that Call of Duty HQ is currently the second most played title on both Xbox and PlayStation by weekly active users Battlefield 6 dropped from sixth to seventh place for the week ending December 13.

Although Activision's series seems to be maintaining momentum after release Black Ops 7the comparison is complicated by the fact that Call of Duty HQ aggregates multiple titles, including free-to-play COD: Warzone. Coupled with recent news that suggests this Black Ops 7 opening sales in selected markets fell significantly, Battlefield 6 It could still hold the U.S. sales lead until the end of the year. However, its near-term prospects in player engagement seem more difficult to predict.

Battlefield 6 isn't beating Call of Duty console activity, but it's doing better on Steam

Although Call of Duty currently leading Battlefield 6 in Circana's player activity rankings on consoles, the trend seems to be reversed on Steam. December 25th Call of Duty HQ saw a concurrent Steam peak of 51,017 players, just over half that Battlefield 6's 99,369, according to SteamDB data. Since the first figure combines multiple games, it would seem Black Ops 7 still lagging behind Battlefield 6 in user activity on the Valve storefront. Battlefield 6Seventh place in console activity isn't necessarily a sign of trouble, as it still shows that even two and a half months after release, the shooter maintains a healthy base. However, even if Black Ops 7 it is underperforming on its own, which has a cumulative effect Warzone and the last few Call of Duty titles means Battlefield is not yet able to close this gap in the ecosystem.

Battlefield RedSec could change in the future

However, DICE and EA are working on it, as highlighted by the late October 2025 launch Battlefield RedSec. A free-to-play battle royale game with progression that will carry over into a standalone premium multiplayer title, RedSec is to Battlefield 6 what Warzone is to Black Ops 7. Upcoming seasonal content, playlist updates, and other tweaks could push player engagement either way, but RedSec EA positions to attack more effectively Call of Dutydominance of the ecosystem in the near future.
