Complete guide to Cloud Islands in Pokemon Pokopia

Pokopie Cloud Islands offers players a persistent world where they can be creative without having to change anything in their own single player story. Up to four players can hop on a Cloud Island at any time, and you can visit as many Cloud Islands as you like. That being said, there are some restrictions on what you can and can't do, and the setup process to create an island comes with a number of navigational options. In this guide I will explain everything you need to know Pokopie Cloud Island mode.

How to create and visit Cloud Island in Pokopia

To create Cloud Island, interact with a computer outside of the Pokémon Center and select Link Play. At the bottom of this menu is the option to “Play on Cloud Island”.

Select this and then you will have the following options:

  • Go to the previously visited Cloud Island

  • Look for the new Cloud Island

  • Create a new Cloud Island

The first option will give you a list of Cloud Islands you've visited before that you can easily return to. Finding a new Cloud Island using the second option requires you to enter an eight-digit address in order to visit it. You will need to ask the island host (or another player who has visited Cloud Island) for this in order to visit it.

The third option allows you to create a new Cloud Island. First, you'll need to either generate a random Cloud Island or use a magic number to create one. A magic number is a nine-digit number that acts as a “seed”.

The magic number allows you to create an identical Cloud Island to one you've already visited (or know about from the community). It is Popopia equivalent to a Minecraft seed.

Once you've selected one of these options and named your Cloud Island, you'll be given a list of settings to complete. These are:

  • Share with others: Allow other players to freely play on the island.
  • Enable virtual mode: Choose virtual mode if you don't want other players' actions to be saved.
  • Set the link code: Choose whether players must enter a link code to join.
  • View link code: Choose whether to display the link code when playing with others.
  • Change link code: Check and change the Cloud Island connection code.
  • Enable save link code: Choose whether players can automatically save your link code so they can easily return to Cloud Island.

After confirming these settings and accepting the name and address of the island, Popopia will go to work creating your Cloud Island and then your characters will be transported to the new island from your main area.

Now you can play with friends (or all by yourself) on your Cloud Island to your heart's content. When you're ready to return to the main game, open the Pokedex menu (the + button) and then press the – button to go back to the home page.

How many players can visit Cloud Island in Pokopia?

Up to four players can play on Cloud Island at any time. One slot is always reserved for the host, so only three people can play at a time if they are not online.

However, probably hundreds of different players could visit the same Cloud Island if they have the code for it. They would just have to play at a different time.

This is not like Minecraft A creative mode where you can just fly around and use whatever you want. You'll still need to craft or buy items and scavenge for materials around the world, and there are still environment levels for your Cloud Island that determine what you can buy from the PC store outside of the Pokémon Center.

However, if you have the materials and creativity, you can build whatever you want. Cloud Islands includes all the areas from the main game, so you have plenty of space to do whatever you want.

Does progress transfer between Cloud Islands and your main world?

Actually no, no. Cloud Islands are largely separate from the main experience. Your Cloud Island has its own level of environment, shop and challenges, and any items you craft or buy from your Cloud Island cannot be carried back to your main world. Your trainer rank in your main world will also not improve based on anything you do on Cloud Island.

All abilities you've learned from other Pokémon in the main game will be unlocked on Cloud Island. However, any Pokemon you first find on Cloud Island will not appear in your main world's Pokedex as fully discovered. Relics will be discovered in your collection menu, but you cannot return them.

In many cases, the game will recognize the progress you make or things you find on Cloud Island, but simply won't let you transfer those items or Pokemon back to your main world.
