Cyberpunk 2077 has passed another incredible sales milestone

Action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077 unlocks another major sales success thanks to significant efforts by developers after launch.

CDPR has made good on that promise, patch 2.2 will be released around 12:00pm EST on December 10th. As with the last few updates, this latest release is a PC exclusive, and the current version of the dystopian RPG as CDPR has ended support for last-gen versions Cyberpunk 2077 back in September 2022. According to Game Rant's preliminary testing, the 2.2 update is approximately 36.88 GB in size on the Xbox Series X/S. SteamDB lists the PC version of the patch as a 58.18GB download. Its size is not yet confirmed for PS5.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2 introduces new car customization options

The December 2024 patch introduces several new car customization options, including an improved version of the CrystalCoat that was first introduced in Cyberpunk 2077update 2.11. While the initial iteration of the feature only allowed players to change paint on Rayfield cars, this sequel also supports vehicles made by Quadra, Villefort, Mizutani, and Herrera. As usual, changing color when wanted by the police will help the player lose their wanted status faster. The other big new feature is the Kiroshi TwinTone feature, which allows players to scan any car in Night City to unlock its paint for a custom(ed) variant of the same vehicle in exchange for a nominal fee. All TwinTone and CrystalCoat compatible vehicles are marked with a spray icon on the Autofixer website.

Speaking of Autofixer, ten new cars have been added with the new update, including three Mizutani models and two Quadras. Two of the new additions require Phantom Liberty expansion, while the remaining eight are only available with the base game. Update 2.2 also reworks Cyberpunk 2077 Photo mode, which features the ability to create up to three NPCs, create and edit light sources, and control the camera with greater precision. In addition, the drone camera is now free, without clipping, rather than orbiting the V, and its maximum distance has been increased. Patch 2.2 also adds support for custom resolution Photo Mode screenshots, though only on PC due to console-specific technical limitations.

Kiroshi SmartFrames are also included in this release, offering players a way to further customize Apartment V with photos of their choice. Update 2.2 even introduces new character customization options, from additional eye colors and lip makeup types to more facial scars and tattoos. That's all on top of numerous bug fixes and some easter eggs that CDPR said they didn't want to spoil.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2 Patch Notes

New game features

  • Originally designed only for Rayfield vehicles, Rayfield's CrystalCoat™ technology has now been adopted by other car manufacturers. You can now change the paintwork of Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra and Villefort vehicles. Pro Tip: Use CrystalCoat™ to fool the cops and lower the required NCPD level!
  • Kiroshi presents TWINTONE™! As CrystalCoat™ continues to gain popularity, TWINTONE™ takes your painting to the next level. Simply scan the car with Kiroshi optics, switch to a TWINTONE™ card, then save the vehicle color scheme for a small fee. You will then be able to select a scheme in the TWINTONE™ database from the CrystalCoat™ menu. You will also find generic paint schemes for all CrystalCoat™ compatible vehicles as well as unique paint schemes exclusive to the vehicle model it was copied from. Please note that color scheme cloning is not allowed on vehicles that are mission linked, NCPD or not compatible with CrystalCoat™ technology.
  • All CrystalCoat™ and TWINTONE™ compatible vehicles are marked with a spray icon on Autofixer.
  • After Act 1, Johnny now sometimes appears in the passenger seat when V is driving to comment and react to what is happening.
  • Added more secrets to discover in Night City.

  • Increased camera range.
  • Full Collision (ON/OFF) – determines whether the camera respects collisions of objects in the game.
  • Lock Camera (ON/OFF) – Locks the camera to prevent false clicks and frame destruction.
  • Precision Camera (ON/OFF) – slows down the camera for easier aiming.

Browse your photo collection in the new Gallery menu tab located next to Journal, Shards, and Tarot. Gallery downloads .png images from the screenshots folder on your PC or from the console gallery. For more details on SmartFrames™ and the Gallery, see this support article.

Changes to quests and the open world

  • Reworded objectives for quests that tell you to wait a certain amount of time to progress. The game is designed in a way that doesn't always allow players to simply skip game time to reach an objective, instead requiring them to continue playing to trigger the next event.
  • Cyberpsycho Sighting: Where the Bodies Hit the Floor – Fixed an issue where no shard was found on a cyberpsycho's body, blocking progression.
  • Dream On – Trauma Team AV on the roof will now be properly hidden in stealth mode.
  • Heroes – Fixed an issue where a quest, despite being completed, could remain marked as incomplete in the journal with the optional objectives “Talk to Padre” and “Talk to Valentine”.

Changes specific to Phantom Liberty

  • Balls to the Wall – Fixed an issue where it was impossible to exit the elevator and talk to Yuri due to an invisible wall.
  • Firestarter – Fixed an issue where fast travel could be blocked if the player saved the game soon after exiting Reed's car.
  • Gig: Waiting for Dodger – After being freed, Bill and Charles will now be more careful with their driving and avoid running over Dodger's goons, thus avoiding an unnecessary fight.
  • Hi Ho Silver Lining – The VIP section in the Heavy Hearts Club will now be accessible to players who were unable to meet Mr. Handsem because you need a key card to use the elevator.
  • I've Seen That Face Before – The garage door that prevents players from getting to the meeting point will now be open.
  • Run This Town – The elevator in the Heavy Hearts Club is now back in operation, so V can finally meet Mr. By hands.
  • Somewhat Broken – Fixed an issue where the prompt to disconnect the cables from the neural network system was missing.
  • The Killing Moon – Fixed an issue with a wall blocking the path when carrying the Songbird to the shuttle.

Changes to the game

  • Fixed one of the katana finisher animations to properly reflect enemies head.
  • Iconic Synapse Burnout and Iconic System Collapse quick hacks will now be properly affected by the RAM cost reduction buff.
  • Icons for Tier 5+ and 5++ Behavioral Imprint-synchronized Faceplate will now be visible on the HUD while driving.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Synaptic Accelerator to remain active indefinitely if the player is detected while not in combat.
  • The car horn will no longer sound when the player reloads the weapon during a vehicle fight when playing with a controller.
  • Fixed an issue where NCPD could stop working properly after V was involved in a shootout in Pacifica between the Voodoo Boys and the Trauma Team.

Various changes

  • Fixed an issue where the sound of the TV program was muted or too quiet.
  • Fixed an issue where CrystalCoat™ was not applied correctly after entering a vehicle.
  • Due to popular demand, we've lowered Trauma Drama's high score.
  • Adjusted V's mouth movement in various scenes, including endings.
  • Fixed voice breaking issue during Ebunike station announcement on NCART.
  • Fixed ray-traced shadows for V in photo mode.

PC-specific changes

  • You will now be able to properly rebind W and S to actions other than their default settings in the Vehicle category.
  • Optimized thread system for up to 33% performance boost on Intel Arrow Lake processors.
