Lead game designer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has left Warhorse to join CD Projekt Red to work as lead quest designer on The Witcher 4.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is widely regarded as one of the best RPGs to come out in the last decade, second only to, you guessed it, The Witcher 3. One of the main similarities between Kingdom Come and The Witcher is that they both have fantastic quests that are much more involved and detailed than most other RPGs.
With that in mind, the expectations are that The Witcher 4 will continue everything that the last game did right and push it forward for other RPGs to follow. We know so little about The Witcher 4 right now that it's hard to say where it's headed, but it's looking even more positive now that a senior member of Warhorse has jumped ship to CD Projekt Red.
The Witcher 4 now has a lead quest designer who worked on the excellent Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Full circle for an RPG
As pointed out by Twitter user kaarxx_, Karel Kolmann recently confirmed on LinkedIn that he has left Warhorse Studios and moved to CD Projekt Red to work on The Witcher 4. Kolmann has been with Warhorse for eight years and has held several roles, but specifically was the senior game designer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
During his time at KCD2, Kolmann designed the game's 11 quests (which included writing dialogue and cutscenes), put together a complex crime system, and even worked as a designer on “big battles and fights”. Hardcore Mode was also designed and written by Kolmann, so he obviously had a big part in Warhorse.
Here's hoping The Witcher 4 gets a hardcore mode similar to Kingdom Come. I can only imagine having to navigate by just looking at the stars.
Kolmann confirmed on his LinkedIn that he is now working as a senior quest designer on The Witcher 4, which seems like a perfect fit given his work on Kingdom Come. With Deliverance 2's quests considered to be one of its best aspects, things are definitely looking good for Ciri's big adventure.
