Destiny 2's Shadow and Order update has reportedly been delayed

Unfortunately for Fate 2 Fans, Shadow and Order's upcoming major update seems to have been hit with a delay and is getting out of the way of Bungie's upcoming game, Marathon. While the beginning Fate 2The Year of Prophecy seemingly got off on the wrong foot with all the changes added in Edge of Fate, Star WarsThe Renegades-inspired expansion was a hit with players and brought a much-needed boost to the game.

Renegades added a big mix Star Wars on Fate 2two things that went together much better than the fans. While the content doesn't use any Star Wars-specific names or locations, fans can clearly see the game's main inspiration, with the new social center Tharsis Outpost featuring a Tatooine cantina. Many of the weapons, such as the Uncivil Discourse, the A499 Heavy Sniper Rifle, and The Heirloom, are all inspired by the classic Star Wars weapons used by Han Solo, Din Djarin, and Chewbacca. not only that Fate 2 fans could finally get their hands on the Praxic Blade, Bungie's take on the iconic lightsaber. However, for those looking for new content to watch, it looks like the wait will be even longer.

Destiny 2's first major update of 2026 continues to improve the controversial feature

Bungie is releasing its first major update of 2026 for Destiny 2, fixing a number of issues while continuing to improve one particular feature.

Destiny 2 Shadow and Order reportedly delayed

For Fate 2 fans, it looks like the wait for the next big update is going to be a little longer than expected. Although Bungie previously revealed a Fate 2 roadmap for its Year of Prophecy roadmap last year, which indicated that the Shadow and Order update would launch on March 2, 2026, things have changed a bit. While Bungie has yet to officially comment on the updated change, the news comes from Forbes writer Paul Tassi, who heard from his sources that Fate 2The March update is being pushed, although details on how long or when it will be officially announced are currently unknown.

While details remain very thin on Shadow and Order, it represents a similar mid-season update as Fate 2Previous editions of Ash and Iron during The Edge of Fate. Unfortunately, Ash and Iron wasn't the slam-dunk that fans were hoping for, leaving fans in a state of continued frustration with the state of the game. Although Fate 2The number of players did not return to pre-Edge of Fate levels, the Renegades expansion was well received by players who adopted many new gameplay elements such as the Praxic Blade, the Lawless Frontier activity, as well as core mechanical changes such as the Vanguard Alerts system, bringing popular activities such as the weekly Nightfall and rewards.

The reason for the delay isn't hard to figure out, as confirmed by Bungie Marathon finally has an official release date, with the upcoming extraction shooter launching on March 5th. Naturally, Bungie doesn't want two of its games competing for attention. Marathon some breathing room and the ability to capture the entire spotlight, it appears to be moving Fate 2 aside for now. With that said, Bungie is also preparing some crossover content, as well as announcing special cosmetics such as the “Waiting for Exfil” emote, the Modern MIDA Multi-tool exotic weapon skin, and the Silkworm Weave Shader.

After 2025, which included a stunning testing period and controversy stemming from allegations of plagiarism regarding Marathon's art, the game has seemingly turned a corner following its delay and re-reveal by Bungie. Looking for a fresh start, Bungie seems to have taken much of the criticism and feedback to heart, implementing regular features like solo queue, nearby chat, and different maps, each featuring dynamic weather, better lighting, and improved visuals. With things seemingly heading in a much more positive direction, the start of a March release date may indicate a higher level of confidence in the title. Even ARC Raiders still dominates the genre, it will be interesting to see how Marathon is able to fit in.
