Hades 2 He takes everything that his predecessor brilliant, and gives players more. One of these things is an excellent protagonist, because players who adored Zagreuse will also fall in love with Melinoë. Both children Hades are dynamic, well written, three -dimensional figures whose personal paths are as important as their courageous underworld businesses. Their complexity makes them interesting, which in turn makes players to take care of them and grow to see their stories to the end.
At first glance, Hades's conscientious daughter and the rebellious son may seem like polar opposites. Although they differ in many ways, there are some common features between them. Not only does it help to continue feeling clearly while maintaining the feeling of the original, but it also makes Melinoë and Zagreus feel like realistic siblings – even though they have never met.
It is fighting out; He is fighting in
The opposite path through hell
Hades 2 It turns the assumption of the original game on the head. While Zagreus fought on the road to the surface, Melinoë is looking for a way down, Tartarus and House of Hades, where her enemy lies. Even her journey to Mount Olympus is a similar concept: its goal is to disrupt defense and find the way in.
In the end, Zag's journey is a leak while Mel is infiltration. He spent his life trapped in House of Hades, cut off from what was behind, and desperately desires them. She spent her life in exile, got rid of her right of birth and thrown away from her legitimate home. Both are determined to get back something that have denied their circumstances, and their goals lie at the opposite ends of the underworld.
Both are fighting for a family
Family bonds are the theme of the series
The aim of Zagreuse is to meet his mother Persephone, contact his family members at the Olympus away from the suffering of her father. Melinoë is trying to free his family from Chronos's tyranny. Both are driven by the desire to connect with a family they never knew.
Also in both cases, their final enemy is eventually the one who separated them from their family members. Their situations are, of course, different – Hades kept Zagreuse from Persef in an effort to prevent war with other gods, while Chronos launched a war that separated Melinoë from her parents and brother. However, both must overcome huge obstacles to create a family bond that has been rejected.
Duty versus rebellion
Their greatest motivation is opposites
Both Hádes' children have roles that have been assigned almost from birth. However, while Zagreus directly refused, his younger sister completely embodies her. Its aim is to escape a narrow restriction of what was considered his “first -born”, while Melinoë aims to see hers.
Zagreus was born in Hades, but due to the distance and cold behavior of his father, he never felt much responsibility. Melinoë, on the other hand, has been trained for his task since Hecate saved her from chronos take over. The people around him have become accustomed to Zagreus's restless nature and attitude, and he doesn't care much about their expectations. But Melinoë's Comerarad at the intersection expects great things from her and intends to deliver.
They both wear the heart on the sleeve
Neither of them misses words
Zagreus, with his hobby for snark, which added to his hard, rebellious character. It is not over the rivals, especially pompous and arrogant theseus, is not above the casting of several verbal spines. But his tendency to sincerity is not just for his enemies – he is straightforward with his friends and loved ones. Zagreus does not play about his feelings for meg or dus, and is not afraid to call his friends when they need to hear it.
Melinoë can be a little more booked than her brother, but she also speaks her mind freely, does not hesitate to rebuke her enemies or tell her friends how she cares about it. She is ashamed when she tells Icarus that he is missing or tells Eris exactly what she thinks about her. Her rough side is not as obvious as Zag's, but shows a dry sense of humor. When Scylla wants Melo's view of the new song of the band and tells her that she welcomes feedback from fans, Melinoë tells her to ask her instead.
Drastically different education
Contrasting expectations
Zagreus grew within the limits of the house with a strict, cold and distant God for his father. Players feel that he was always seen as the “boss's son” living in the shadow of his father. His father seemed to have never bother to train him for any duties, and thus rejected his role. He found a mother figure in Nyx (who believed he was his biological mother) and a mentor in Achille, who both believe in him. However, Hades seems to have had some contempt for Zagreuse from the beginning. He expects little from his son and it seems that many others in Houdes also took this attitude.
On the other hand, Melinoë was brought up by a group of people who attached their hopes to her. From the first day, hecate was trained for a task that would eventually finish. She learned from Selene, Artemis, Medea, Circle and others, all of whom believe in their strength and ability to defeat Chronos. There are people who doubt it (Nemesis, for one), but most people around it have incredibly high expectations.
Both have a hidden soft side
Kindness below the surface
Zagreus is ruthless, rebellious, noble son of the god of the dead. Melinoë is a dedicated, devoted, goals managed by exiled princess. Both have somewhat hard exteriors, albeit in very different ways. But when the players get to know them, they both reveal some softness below it.
Zagreus makes many new acquaintances on their way through the underworld, and when they learn their stories, his first instinct is almost always a way to help them. They seek to interrupt the contracts that keep Sisyshus in chains, prevent Orpheus and Eurydice to match and decompose Achilles and Patoclus. It is partly another act of rebellion towards his father, yes – but his actions come from a place of compassion and desire to help people he cares about.
Melinoë is also trying to help those he meets. Her kindness for animals appears several times during her story, in her interactions with her acquaintances and her meetings with Cerberus. He wants the intersection to be a safe refuge for anyone who needs it, and encourages Icarus and Moros to seek refuge there. The children of Hades will gain their stubbornness and sincerity from their father, but also inherited the key feature of Person: Kind and compassion.
