This post contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen.
Few action anime come close to achieving this Jujutsu Kaisen. Although it was broadcast relatively recently, it has become one of the most famous series in the world. Fans who watched the show were enthralled by the story, the characters and the amount of action. Like any fan base, JJK fans are also divided on some topics. Some people prefer more story than action scenes and vice versa.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Toji vs Maki – Who's Stronger?
Maki Zenin and Toji Fushiguro, the black sheep of the Zenin clan, sure know how to make a mess, but who is stronger?
But the polarization does not end there. Many fans have different opinions about the same character. While this is common and a sign of a good fan base, there are times when things can quickly turn toxic. Something similar happened after Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 released its fourth episode.
The Maki Controversy in Jujutsu Kaisen
Maki's power has increased a lot
After the premiere of JJK Season 4 Episode 3, there was a massive discussion about it on social media platforms. Western audiences liked the episode because it had a lot of action as Maki slaughtered most of the Zenin clan. She hadn't planned to kill her clan members, but Ogi's actions changed everything. Ogi blamed Maki and Mai for his inability to become the next head of the Zenin Clan. Therefore, he decided to murder his own flesh and blood for the approval of his clan members.
He left both his daughters before his death and began to leave the treasury. However, he had no idea that Mai would sacrifice herself and drain Maki of all the cursed energy she had left. This caused Maki's power to increase several times, after which she destroyed not only Ogi, but also several other top assassins of her clan. After dealing with them, Maki was attacked by Naoya Zenin, who believed himself to be the next head of the clan.
Japanese Jujutsu Kaisen fans love Naoya Zenin

Naoya Zenin has scored high in popularity polls

The Japanese fans didn't like that Naoya was beaten
The controversy started after Maki absolutely destroyed Naoya in their fight. Before the power-up, Naoya could easily beat her. But Maia's sacrifice allowed her sister to reach the same level as Toji Fushiguro. Considering how despicable a human being that disrespects women Naoya is, it's shocking that he consistently ranks in the top 10 in popularity polls. He finished 10th and 6th in the second and third polls. In the fourth popularity poll, it jumped up one spot to finish 5. Considering that Maki wiped out Naoya, the fan favorite (according to polls), it makes sense that the episode is rated so low in Japan. Their problem is with Naoyi's treatment and not Maki's. So Japanese fans hate JJK Maki; they just love Naoya Zenin too much.
Naoya Zenin is one of the worst characters in Jujutsu Kaisen
Naoya Zenin treated many people badly
Powers aside, Naoya Zenin is objectively one of the most terrifying individuals in JJK. In fact, he manages to dislodge even cursed spirits bent on wreaking havoc. One can even make a case for someone like Mahito because he was a cursed spirit, but not Naoya. He is a person who actively targets people weaker than him. In fact, Koji Yusa, Naoya Zenin's voice actor, was surprised to learn of his popularity among fans.
I've been looking at popularity polls in manga volumes and for some reason it's near the top. With such a personality? He casually says the most horrible things. I get the prompt, “Man, it must feel good to let it all out like that,” so maybe that's it. He has high pride and real skill, so he speaks his mind. But the content of what he says still shocks me. Let me be clear: those are Naoyi's words, not mine. It's really confusing that a character like him is so popular. — Koji Yusa
Fortunately, Maki put an end to the snob's aspirations with a well-placed strike. Even though Naoya has been removed by Maki, there are still many pressing matters for her to deal with. The Culling Game is on the horizon and the heroes must hurry to protect Tsukimi. In addition, he must make sure that Gojo Satoru is freed from the prison realm because he is humanity's best hope against the curses. However, it will require the heroes to convince Angel to use his power to undo the cursed technique. Choso and Yuki will also need to be on their toes as Kenjaku will most certainly try to attack Tengen in the next part of his plan.
