A visual horror novel Doki Doki Literature Club was suddenly removed from the Google Play Store, prompting a response from the game's creator and publisher. The move appears to have come as a surprise to the backroom team Doki Doki Literature Clubwith seemingly little to no notice from Google.

Although Doki Doki Literature Club was originally made available back in 2017, it wasn't added to the Google Play and iOS App Store until the end of 2025. The psychological horror game shocked gamers and streamers around the world for its unexpected twists, graphic content and mature themes in what initially appeared to be a light-hearted romantic visual novel. However, these issues seem to be the reason behind its removal from the Google Play Store.

On April 8th, some astute players noticed Doki Doki Literature Club seemingly disappeared from the Google Play Store out of nowhere. A day later, game creator Dan Salvato and publisher Serenity Forge released an official statement revealing that Google had removed the game from the store, claiming that the game's content violated their terms of service for “displaying sensitive topics”. The team defended the game, saying its themes were meaningful to players and helped those struggling with their mental health feel seen and understood.

Doki Doki Literature Club it's still available on all other major platforms, including iOS, for now. However, the team is already looking into ways to get the game onto Android devices without involving the Google Play Store. From the looks of it, Android players don't have to worry about only having access to a censored or altered version of the game. However, it may take a while before it's widely available on Android devices again.

Many players have shared comments on the matter, expressing their disappointment that it has been pulled from the Google Play Store. Some have commented that they have already downloaded and installed the game and are grateful that the game is still on their devices and playable. Many have also noted that Google's sudden decision is a bit odd since then Doki Doki Literature Club has long had a reputation for dark and scary themes. For whatever reason, it seems the game's content wasn't considered an issue until three months after it was added to the platform.

Fortunately, players have a choice when it comes to where they want to play Doki Doki Literature Club. The game was made available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and iOS. Although a new version of the game with additional content launched in 2021 as Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!the original version of the title is still available on Steam for free. Hopefully, those who don't have any other devices to access the game will be able to get it back on their Android phones and tablets soon.
