Editor MrBeast was fired and heavily fined for alleged insider trading

Video editor for YouTube Superstar and entertainment business mogul MrBeast has reportedly been fined $20,000 and fired from his job after being flagged for suspected insider trading on the Kalshi prediction platform. MrBeast, whose real name is James “Jimmy” Donaldson, has more subscribers through his YouTube channel than any other content creator in the history of the platform and has decided to part ways with this member of his team in light of recent developments.

MrBeast officially became a billionaire in June 2024 at the age of 26, making him easily one of the most successful internet celebrities of all time. He started as a video game streamer at the age of 13, and his popularity led to a fortune that he began giving away in viral videos that earned him even more money, leading to a growing income loop that some criticized for exploiting those in need, but also providing funding to many people. His philanthropic work has included partnerships with the Arbor Day Foundation, the Ocean Conservancy and numerous food pantries, disaster relief and community projects under his own Beast Philanthropy, and he has inspired many people with his wealth and what he has done with it.

In late February, website Kalshi, which allows users to bet on anything, fined Artem Kaptur $20,000 and suspended him from further betting on the platform for two years as part of a wide-ranging investigation into around 200 different users suspected of violating the site's rules. Kaptur is credited as a visual effects artist on MrBeast's YouTube channel from 2023 to 2025 and also on Amazon Prime. Beast of the gamereality competition show hosted by Donaldson, in which 1,000 contestants compete in multiple rounds of group and individual challenges for a grand prize of $5 million. According to reports from Kalshi, Kaptur placed $4,000 in bets related to MrBeast, which is not allowed due to his knowledge of Donaldson's business dealings with “material, non-public information”. The information from Kalshi did not say how much money Kaptur won as a result of placing these bets, but did reveal that he was initially flagged as a potential infringer due to his near-perfect record of correctly betting on MrBeast's activities despite low odds of success.

In addition to the fine, Kaptur was reportedly fired by Beast Industries after being suspended for a week, with other employees receiving an email informing them of his termination. Prior to Kaptur's firing, an unnamed spokesperson for Beast Industries told the BBC that the company “does not tolerate this behavior, either from competitors or our own employees”, and that in addition to the internal Kalshi investigation, it was launching its own independent investigation into Kaptur's prediction betting activities related to MrBeast's YouTube channel.

The prediction betting craze may be making its way into video games. In November, CEO David Baszucki announced the possibility of adding prediction bets Roblox. According to the proposal, users would be able to bet Robux, the platform's premium currency, within a range of different ones Roblox games. Baszucki didn't go into great detail about how these potential features would work, but noted that the development team would have to go through a lot of different legal issues before implementation.

The allegations of illegal betting against Kaptur add to the growing list of controversies associated with Beast Industries. These included former cast member Ava Kris Tyson, who left following unconfirmed allegations of sexual abuse with minors, which an internal investigation deemed unsubstantiated. In addition, Donaldson himself was accused by Mexican authorities of climbing confined structures and entering a temple in the Chichen Itza pyramid ruins, and by other former editors of maintaining a work environment of verbal abuse, unreasonable expectations, and a lack of recognition for work done. Donaldson has denied the allegations by former employees.
