The latest free-to-play promotion for the mysterious Epic Games Store officially kicked off on December 11 with Hogwarts heritage released on the platform. A wildly successful open world Harry Potter the action RPG was the best-selling game of 2023 and one of the biggest games ever to be free on the Epic Games Store. Epic Games Store users are interested in being added Hogwarts heritage to their digital libraries by Thursday, December 18th at 10:00 a.m. CST. at that moment Hogwarts heritage will be phased out and replaced with a new free mystery game believed to be the start of the daily giveaway.

No list of free mystery games has been officially revealed, but a list is circulating online. Seemingly coming from Chinese social media accounts, the “leak” of a free-to-play mysterious Epic Games Store game is interesting, but most likely fake. However, mystery free games from the Epic Games Store are almost always leaked in advance, so there's a slim chance that the latest could be genuine. We'll know for 100% once the next free-to-play mystery game comes out on December 18, but in the meantime, fans can check out the list and draw their own conclusions.

If the leak is real, Hogwarts heritage will follow The development of Jurassic World 2 December 18th Desperados 3, Total War: Warhammer, Tropico 5, Chicken Police: Paint It Red, Loop Hero, LEGO Batman, Commander Keen, Farming Simulator 2022, Slime Rancher 2, Terrariums, Detroit: Become Human, Mortal Kombat 11and finally, Red Dead Redemption 2 round out the new year. The selection is a mix of big-budget AAA games and lower-profile titles, which befits the mystery game promotions of previous years, but there are some serious red flags in the leaked list.
Red Dead Redemption 2 being free on the Epic Games Store seems outlandish in itself, but Rockstar Games titles have been free on the platform in the past, the most notable example being Grand Theft Auto 5.
Several of the games on the list are not currently available on the Epic Games Store, which is the biggest sign that the list is fake. Of course, it's entirely possible that games will debut on the platform as free-to-play games, which isn't unprecedented. Another red flag is that the Christmas Day free game was usually a bigger title, so it wouldn't make sense to load up the end of the month with games like Mortal Kombat 11 and Red Dead Redemption 2 and give away Commander Keen on the 25th
In previous years, the Epic Games Store mystery game free promotion has extended to 2026. The fact that no 2026 games are mentioned in the list is also an indication that these are almost certainly fake. Still, legitimate leaks of mysterious free Epic Games Store games happen every year, so it's something to consider. Fortunately, we don't have to wait long at all to find out if the leak of the mysterious EGS game is fake or not. If the free game is revealed on December 18 The development of Jurassic World 2the rest of the leak will have new found credibility. If it isn't, fans may dismiss it as completely fake.
