Every Kapp'n Mystery Island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

It's never a dull day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! In the battle for the best transportation services, your great uncle Kapp'n will pull out the big guns and offer to take you to the islands at a completely different time of day or even a different time of year.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the mysterious paths the turtle takes you on depend on how long you play, as well as what fortune Katrina predicts. This list explains how to get a chance on each island and ranks them all.

Updated March 28, 2026 Gabrielle Castania: Today we're updating our ACNH Kapp'n Island review with a few more photos, simplified information in tables for each island, and links to other Animal Crossing content we've posted since our last update. Happy island hopping, to the new and returning players!

In order to unlock certain Kapp'n Islands, you must play the game after a certain date. If your villager is over a year old, then all of the Kapp'n Islands are possible on your daily mystery journey. If not, keep playing the game after the dates we mention below so you can add these ACNH islands to your potential Kapp'n island tour list.

If you want to head to an island quite like a regular Nook Miles island, but without a villager to seek out, then the basic islands in Kapp'n Tours are just that. If Katrina tells you during a fortune reading you will have bad luck with things it's best to stay home for the day because chances are you'll end up here.

Farming wasn't in Animal Crossing: New Horizons when it launched in March 2020, but fans liked it enough once it was added in a much-hyped later update. If you're not trying to wait for Leif to sell you seed for your home farms, then you might be lucky enough to find an island of Kapp'n filled with one of the game's six potential crops.

Each of the crop islands that Kapp'n can take you to will have an abundance of carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, sugarcane, tomatoes or wheat that you can dig up with a shovel and bring home with you to plant on your island as fully grown plants ready for harvest and unlimited growth.

Be sure to also check out the coast before you head out, as you will almost certainly find a new cooking recipe that uses island ingredients.

The rarest of the regular islands may seem gloomy, but it offers a beautiful surprise. As we know, you always have to water the planted gyroid fragments to grow a full gyroid. So if you land somewhere where it rains all the time, you're bound to have some fully grown gyroid buddies!

When you arrive at these islands, you will immediately notice the downpour. Not only can you find an assortment of bugs and fish in the rainy weather, but you'll also find a full-grown Gyroid waiting for you in an excavated spot on the island, instead of just a Gyroid fragment.

This island used to be much higher up in our ACNH Kapp'n Islands rankings, but now that the hype surrounding the update it was introduced in has died down over time, the luster has fallen a bit. Still, if you need to stock up on glowing moss, stacks of vines, or decorative plumeria bushes, here's your chance!

Along the coast you'll also be sure to find one of the recipes that uses either or both of the new crafting materials with Glowing Moss and Vines. Introduction has added a lot of creative furniture to our DIY catalogs, so it never hurts to be inventive!

To unlock the ability to visit these distant shores, your character must experience each of these natural events in their own home. Once your own island is enriched with bamboo for the first time, you'll be able to head to Kapp'n Island, where fully grown bamboo grows alongside an assortment of regular trees.

Not only do you have another chance to stock up on young spring bamboo and a new recipe to use it with if you didn't collect it during your own spring bamboo harvesting season, but you'll also have access to seasonal bugs and fish if you missed anything at home during the original season.
