One of the best parts of any new game reveal is all the hidden details that people start finding out later, or information that is shared immediately after a massive trailer, and Fable is no exception.
Since the full reveal during Thursday's Xbox Developer Direct, fans have been pouring over every minute of detail, and Playground Games has in turn shared plenty of information about what to expect when the game releases later this fall.
That said, not every discovery has to be fun, and in this case, fans found the game marked as a single-player experience on Steam. In other words, don't expect the basic co-op experience like in Fable 2 or the enhanced version that was present in Fable 3.
Fable is Going To Be All About Finding Joy In The World
I can't wait to live a boring, boring life in Playground Games' Fable.
“As someone who only plays for myself, I like that now achievements won't force you to play multiplayer to get them all,” wrote one fan in response to the change.
Meanwhile, there were others who were expecting something along the lines of Fable 3's chaotic experience.
“Not sure why so many people are apparently happy about this? If it had co-op it wouldn't detract from the single player experience,” wrote another.
Face it, the potential lack of co-op play is just one of many things from the original Fable suite of titles that won't be returning when this revival eventually drops.
New Fable aims to be the fable you love, but without those essential elements
That's because aside from the co-op gameplay, it was similarly revealed by Playground itself that the popular canine companion mechanic will not be present in any way, shape or form. It's seemingly the only change other developers haven't been able to work around.
“There are some people on the team who were glad I got this question because I cut it off a while ago. You know what? For development reasons, right?” Ralph Fulton, CEO of Playground, said. “I don't need to go into any more details, except that there are a significant number of people on the team who still haven't forgiven me for this decision.
And if that wasn't enough, don't expect any character transformations in the new Fable either, as the new system moves away from considerations of “objective good and evil.” Instead, players can have more reputation, which would be destroyed if you happened to be a horned creature screaming evil.
Understandably, some hardcore fans are upset after all these events. To the credit it's due, Playground is ashamed of these things and their removal.
