Fallout Franchise Steam CCUs Skyrocket Thanks to Season 2 Hype

If you haven't heard that Amazon's Fallout TV series is in its second season right now, um… then I don't know where you've been. Marketing is everywhere and discussions are constantly circulating on the internet. I'd say you have to live off the grid, but you're here at TheGamer of all places. I don't know. It would be weird.

Of course, Fallout predates the success of Prime Video. The RPG franchise has millions of die-hard fans, and based on what we're seeing on Steam this week, they're lining up to play their favorites again. They could be joined by newcomers whose fondness for Lucy's big trip to New Vegas tempts them to dive into the games. Either way, Bethesda is probably pleased at this point.

Once more to the wasteland

The Brotherhood of Steel arrives at Area 51 in Fallout Season 2.

You'd be forgiven for assuming that it was Fallout: New Vegas itself that got the big boost, and in truth, 2010's record holder Obsidian did have the strongest showing. His meteoric rise to just 20k this season was an unforgettable spectacle, but New Vegas has always had impressive stamina; after all, it hit a little north of 8k in November. Remember this is a pretty old single player game!

At the time of writing, it's close to 14k, which is still very nice. And she is surrounded on all sides by good results among her brothers. Fallout 3's 24-hour peak at 940 CCU might not sound like much, and well, it's not. But it's still a significant jump from the 17-year-old's preseason game. And then there's Fallout 4, the titan of things, which reached 32,274 active players in the same 24-hour period. For all its divisive aspects, people love Fallout 4. They love him at least with mods.

Even Fallout 2 sees love. It hit a “big” 548 in the last day. We are looking in relative terms when we offer triple digits. Still, the show's impact is strongly felt in its second season. Over 500 people watch the original game, even, and bless them; I could never quite get into it.

New Vegas is the rightful star today, however, with rumors of a remaster in the works right next to the long-rumored Fallout 3 remaster. If people who want to return to this setting every year are waiting for a more formal return trip, this has to be a bestseller.
