Fans of the Evolved campaign feel that it changes the architecture of the Forerunner too much

Most of us are still reeling from the release of Halo on the PlayStation. Just a few days ago, we learned that Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of Combat Evolved, will launch on PS5 with completely redesigned visuals and improved gameplay. Now that the dust has settled, fans have begun to dissect the trailer.

Aside from current-gen visuals, character models, and tighter gameplay, not much is shown, but it certainly looks like a remake that stays true to the original. While the developers have said that certain segments will be tweaked to improve the experience, some fans seem to think that the remake has changed too much.

Halo Campaign Evolved completely changes the architecture of the Forerunner

One of the biggest changes you might notice is the style of the Forerunner's architecture. Angular, time-worn structures now look sharp, sleek and shiny. While this doesn't actually change the gameplay, it does change the atmosphere from the original. If the aim of the remake was to capture the nostalgia of Halo: Combat Evolved, this change in architectural design detracts from that.

A Reddit post by Delta4907 talked about how drastic the change in architecture is. Not only are they visually different, but the entire style and layout of some structures has been redesigned. Some fans already pointed this out at the launch of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and the Campaign Evolved trailer hints at more such drastic changes.

“The biggest problem I've seen is the architecture of the Forerunner,” the post reads. “The remake completely changes the profile of the structures and makes them sleek and shiny/metallic looking, whereas the original looked very brutal and weathered, almost like stone.”

Comments also stated that the structures from Campaign Evolved looked too clean compared to the original. Of course, the original design was a product of its time, so a remake version would undoubtedly look much cleaner. But maybe the developers could have done a little more to preserve the original architectural style.
