Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. And Xbox Series X|S for that matter, but I don't think I'll argue that the former is more news than the latter. Either way, we've known it was in the works for a while now; which we didn't know until today's Nintendo Direct partner presentation. response? June 3rd.
While supplies last, a physical capture of FF7 Rebirth for Switch 2 will get you a nice Zack Fair Magic the Gathering card. I'll never fully understand the fandom's admiration for this guy, but at least he's written better in Rebirth than he ever was in Crisis Core. (I said what I said.)
And yet…
If you were worried that this particular variant of Zack Fair wouldn't be available through other means, I have predictable news: you were right. While the card's mechanics are lifted directly from its standard form in the Final Fantasy set, the artwork itself is completely new. I happen to think it looks a little more Zack-by-way-of-Auron, but I digress. What will matter most to many is that the art comes from the one and only Tetsuya Nomura, so this is a big deal.
Red Dead Redemption 2's long-awaited current-gen patch is still coming “This year,” Insider reports
Every day, Rockstar!
Well, technically it will probably depend the most on how well Rebirth ends up on the Switch 2. We recently reported that a port could be on its way this summer, and now we know that it's technically here in a few weeks. before beginning of summer. (Truthfully, most northerners hear “June” and immediately think of summer.) But the question remains. Will it be as solid a port as the recent technical marvel Remake?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess it's going to be somewhat more of a compromise in comparison. Don't hold me back, as Squar Enix have already proven themselves to be technical wizards in the Nintendo-bound iterations of this project. But Rebirth is…yikes. It takes a lot for a game this monumentally larger than its predecessor to run half decently; in fact, aside from PC, I recommend going the PS5 Pro route over the standard model. Which isn't to say it won't make it to the PlayStation 5, because it will. But it's a nice improvement.
Where does that leave things for the Switch 2? The new trailer you see above looks pretty good, doesn't it? But weed is…um. Not the biggest. However, there is still plenty of time before launch to see how well things are shaping up.
Either way, if Zack is your boy, or you're just a Magic the Gathering die-hard, you'll want to pick this up for variant art. Pre-orders aren't live yet, but we'll let you know when that changes.
