Final Fantasy 14 DDoS attacks continue after update 7.4 launches

Final Fantasy 14 experienced another Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on its servers, with North American data centers being the primary target. Last Final Fantasy 14 The DDoS attack came after waves of attacks took a toll on servers back in November.

The attacks came shortly after Final Fantasy 14 launched Patch 7.4, Into the Mist, on December 16. A new content update brought the finale of the fan-favorite Arcadion raids series and a new chapter of the main story that laid the foundation Final Fantasy 14further expansion. Final Fantasy 14 also introduced a strategy board that players can use to formulate battle plans. Update 7.4 also brought a significant change to the game's glamor system, as job, role, and level based restrictions on most armor pieces were removed.

Final Fantasy 14 Marred by Disconnections latest update

Although Final Fantasy 14 experienced a long wave of DDoS attacks in November, disconnection issues have since returned. At the time of writing, the most recent attack on a North American data center occurred on December 19 at approximately 3:30 PM ET. Simply put, a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal operation of a server by suddenly sending a flood of traffic at it. While there is no known way to make a server completely immune to a DDoS attack, games like Final Fantasy 14 may mitigate traffic from the botnet by redirecting traffic flow or through other countermeasures that Square Enix or its partners may take. Hit FF14 players can try to log back in shortly after, though they may encounter a long queue. Square Enix said it is aware of the ongoing situation and will continue to monitor it.

In light of November's DDoS attacks, Square Enix has made a change Final Fantasy 14A Deep Dungeon feature that gave players a way to save a run that would have previously been erased due to disconnection. As of patch 7.4, Final Fantasy 14 allowed players who disconnect within a Deep Dungeon instance to resume running if they log back into the game within 10 minutes or less. However, if one party member in a Deep Dungeon run is eliminated during disconnection, all progress will be lost and players will have to start over from the previous floor.

Other known issues with Final Fantasy 14 latest update

While Final Fantasy 14The latest patch saw its share of issues that required more server outages, one issue united the community in a fun way. With the arrival of patch 7.4, a nameless tier 1 deer appeared, named 'MissingNo' by Final Fantasy 14 players, was spotted in Coerthas Western Highlands. The highlands are normally populated by monsters between levels 50 and 60. Although this is a known bug introduced in patch 7.4, Final Fantasy 14 players took pictures and held group meetings around the MissingNo deer.

Although Square Enix did some hotfixes Final Fantasy 14 On December 19th, to fix some issues with Cosmic Exploration and specific charms, the MissingNo deer could still be found in Coerthas Western Highlands. However, time will tell if or when Square Enix will send the Tier 1 critters back to where they came from in a future update.
