Nintendo fans have no reason to worry about the Switch 2 version Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthsaid a senior Square Enix official. The company aims to provide a port at least on par with the Switch 2 version of its first remake, and noted that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth it may even surpass its predecessor in terms of handheld optimization.
Switch version 2 Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade recently locked in a specific release date: January 22, 2026. Separately, Square Enix said the rest of the remake trilogy will also eventually make its way to Nintendo's hybrid console, though without sharing any specifics.
FF7 Rebirth can beat FF7 Remake in Switch 2 performance
While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has has been lauded as one of the most graphically impressive games of 2024, it should still translate well to the Switch 2's hardware, which is modest compared to current-gen consoles from the likes of PlayStation and Xbox. That's according to the longtime Final Fantasy producer Naoki Hamaguchi, who told VGC that Square Enix is ”working very hard” to make the game work as well as possible on the hybrid console. “[Switch 2 owners] they will get a version that is just as satisfying and as good as the first game, if not higher,” said the executive.
The FF7 Remake Intergrade Switch 2 port is already looking promising
While it hasn't made its way to Nintendo's hybrid console yet, the new port of the first entry in the remake trilogy is already looking promising. Square Enix recently shared a visual comparison video Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Switch version 2 to other platforms indicated that the game will offer at least a similar level of graphical fidelity during cutscenes. In terms of performance, the developer has pledged to aim for 30 frames per second.
Although the Switch 2 version Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth aims for similar performance levels to its predecessor, it could still deliver on Hamaguchi's promise of improvements – for example by offering a more stable frame rate. While the likelihood of Square Enix aiming for more than 30fps on the Switch 2 is fairly low, it can't be completely ruled out. Performance FF7 Remake Intergrade on console will probably serve as the clearest indicator of what to expect Rebirthgiven that both titles use the same engine, share many assets, and are developed by the same studio.
[Switch 2 owners] they get a version that is just as satisfying and just as good as the first game, if not higher.
Square Enix has not yet specified when the second part of the trilogy will arrive on Nintendo's latest console. From the Switch 2 physical version Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will release a Game-Key Card, its sequel will likely follow.
