Some Final Fantasy characters they begin mysteriously, but their stories grow over time. Auron from Final Fantasy 10for example, he opens with Tidus in Zanarkand, disappears for a while, then reappears without saying much, but by the end of the game he turns out to be a crucial piece of how everything comes together.
Final Fantasy: 8 Gameplay Systems That Changed the Series Forever
These Final Fantasy mechanics helped shape some of the best entries and left a lasting impact on the series as a whole.
Other Final Fantasy characters, including those specifically from Final Fantasy 10they are underutilized. They may have a great debut or design, but the following examples simply they don't represent anything really exciting or memorable. The only thing that makes these characters compelling outside of their games are the fan theories.
There will be spoilers for all the games listed.

Edward Chris Von Muir
This prince is Popper
Edward is one of the rotating members of the party Final Fantasy IVa game that never settles until the last round of dungeons. He is an early addition, a prince from Damcyan who ran off with Anna, the daughter of a powerful mage named Tellah.
When they escape, Anna is tragically defeated and Edward is too cowardly to do anything about it, leading to a big confrontation with Tellah. Edward is a Bard, and not very powerful, so he's not a great party member, nor does he develop into an amazing character later on. The game doesn't do enough to redeem Edward and ends up forgetting about him.
Gogo
Who is it?
Final Fantasy 6 has one of the largest rosters of playable characters Final Fantasy history and not everyone gets their time in the sun. Gogo is a good example of an optional character that appears in the latter half of the game. Gogo lives inside the monster and barely speaks when she meets him, and not much after that.
He is a mime class, meaning he has no original talents of his own, but players can make good use of his copy abilities to deal significant damage in battle. Because he is so obscured, there are theories about his existence such as the remains of Emperor Gestahl, Daryl having a connection with Setzer, or Baram sharing a connection with Shadow. Fan theories may be compelling, but the game itself drops the idea that Gogo is important.
Rashard Zangan
Tif's combat trainer
Zangan is a minor character in Final Fantasy VII and martial arts teacher Tifa. Players meet him when Cloud tells his story of being a SOLDIER while the party stays in Kalm. In a flashback, Zangan is found in Nibelheim's inn and is seen rescuing people during a fire after Sephiroth's attack. However, after the flashback, it is.
Top 10 Quotes in Final Fantasy Games, Ranked
From laugh riots to spoony bards, these Final Fantasy lines are memorable and will continue to be quoted for years to come.
Final Fantasy VII giving him a little more time inside Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children a depiction of the incident along with a reenactment of its scenes in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. For such an important tie-in with Tifa, even the remake isn't enough to show how powerful Zangan is meant to be. Cap heroes always deserve more time to shine, and this one is no different.
Black waltzes
Abracadabra And Gone In A Flash
There are three Black waltzes in Final Fantasy 9, and serve as the villains for the game's first major arc. Unlike other factory-made black mages, Black Waltzes have more unique talents and are stronger. Black Waltz 1 can be found in an ice cave, Black Waltz 2 is encountered while trying to leave the airship field in Dali, and Black Waltz 3 follows the player in their airship.
All three boss fights are iconic in the game and also help flesh out more of the other party member, Vivi, but are never mentioned again after all three are defeated. Since they play a key role so early in the game, players can expect more from them.
Tidus' mother
A broken home
The main character is Tidus Final Fantasy 10. He has a lot of daddy issues with his father, Jecht, who apparently gets a name, great character design, and a significant role in the story surrounding his and Tidus' past. Tidus' mother she looks like a normal female NPC and the creators didn't even bother to give her a name.
It is canonically named “Tido's mother,” and appears in several flashbacks throughout the game. She died of illness or a broken heart, Tidus believes, when Jecht left the family, which is one of the main reasons he hates his father so much. The game spends a lot of time cooking up this hatred and connection that Tidus and Jecht share, so it just seemed like Mom would have some late-game presence as Jecht. Instead, even though she is Tidus' main motivation, we never really learn anything about her.
Rex
No, bro
Rex is the first playable character in Final Fantasy 12and he seems set to be the main character. During the night siege, the players fight their way through the castle dungeons, and at the end, Reks is betrayed and dies. Reks is the brother of Vaan, the real protagonist, who looks a lot like him. When a family member is killed in a story, it usually incites someone to seek revenge or answers, but Reks' death doesn't mean much to Vaan.
The best Final Fantasy games about the Warring Kingdoms
Which Final Fantasy game offers the most interesting war stories?
Also, Reks may not be related to Vaan. That's how much he matters except for a few select scenes. It's one of those initial setups that seems like it'll pay off later in the game, like when Reks comes back as someone else, but aside from the twin complex between Basch and Noah, it's completely unimportant to the rest of the story.
Lunafreya Nox Fleuret
Your princess is in another game
Lunafreya is the promised bride of Noctis, the protagonist of Final Fantasy 15. The two never share a scene together because the whole journey is about Noctis getting to Lunafreya before the Imperium can get her away. Unfortunately, she must sacrifice herself to save her city, ending the couple's wedding plans prematurely.
There were plans to give Lunafreya more story time through her own DLC adventure, but that project was scrapped along with several other character-focused DLCs. Lunafreya is definitely an important character in the story, helping to move the plot forward, but it's also not enough as she dies just when things are getting interesting. It would be nice to see what the team has planned for Lunafreya in her DLC.
Argath Thadalfus
Broth And Beans
Argath he is a main character and party member in the early chapters Final Fantasy Tacticsbut is only controlled by AI. Argath is a noble who comes across Ramza and Delita and decides to join their knight troop to restore honor to his name. At the end of the first arc, he turns into a villain and goes so far as to kill Tietra, Delita's sister, because he sees both characters below him as mere trash on the street.
This causes a ripple effect between Delita and Ramza, so you could say that Argath is getting the main theme in the plot. However, he also dies in this battle and does not return. Tactics has a bit of a villain problem as there are too many and no central one to really hate or center the story around. Argath could have been that villain, as iconic as Sephiroth Final Fantasy VII. Instead, he is just one of many.
