Former EA executive still can't believe he's been voted 'worst company in America' twice

EA has held the unofficial title of worst video game company in the world for quite some time now. Whether it's the push for always-online gaming, the rise of microtransactions and loot boxes in FIFA, or the recent layoffs of Battlefield 6 despite having a record-breaking launch. However, it was only a few years ago that it was officially voted the worst company in America.

The poll was conducted by The Consumerist, a publication that no longer exists, and EA had the honor of being voted the worst company in America twice. Understandably, this didn't sit well with Peter Moore, who was at EA at the time. In fact, it seems he might still hold a grudge after all these years.

In an interview with The Game Business, Moors spoke about his years in the video game industry, as CEO of Liverpool FC, and interacting with fans on social media. He immersed himself in his “PR” approach to engaging with the community, and while it worked in the games industry, Liverpool FC's top brass didn't like it one bit.

“At EA, we've been voted the worst company in America two years in a row since Mass Effect ended,” Moore explained. “This is when BP pollutes the Gulf of Mexico. Bank of America brought down the global economy with subprime loans. But fucking Commander Shepherd dies in Mass Effect 3, and that makes us the worst company in America.”

Of course, when faced with real world-changing scenarios, EA's misdeeds are negligible. But when angry players want to voice their opinions, the last thing you want to give them is a poll.

Moore described how he jumped on Twitter to reach out to fans because he wanted to “humanize the face of EA”. Unfortunately for him, this strategy did not translate well to football fans. He tried something similar when he was at Liverpool, but the owners didn't like it at all. “They felt it was out of state. 99% of the time it was very, 'Thank you for traveling.'
