As most survival horror fans know, Resident Evil Requiemthe ninth major entry in Capcom's iconic zombie series, will launch on PC and current-gen platforms on February 27. The IP is expected to continue the hot streak that began in 2017 Resident Evil 7although Resident Evil Requiem is poised to be a much more ambitious and cross-generational experience that combines the first-person emphasis of the games' new protagonist Ethan Winters with the third-person action of the remakes.
Additionally, series mainstay Leon Kennedy returns to the fray and stars in it Resident Evil Requiem alongside newcomer Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft of Resident Evil Outbreak. The game will allow players to switch between first and third person, though the default will be for Grace's first-person segments and Leon's third-person segments – a clear indication of the “new” Resident Evil meeting the “old” one. It's fitting, then, that the two most recent, unremade entries in the series, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Villagecoming to Nintendo Switch on the same day as Resident Evil Requiem. Why Switch 2 users should play Resident Evil 7
After Resident Evil 6Capcom was in a difficult spot. The response to the latest flagship record has been mixed to say the least, and its cultural relevance has somewhat diminished in the wake of its bombshell success. Resident Evil 4. Fortunately, the developer made the best decision under the circumstances: it took a big swing with a new idea and it paid off big.
RE4 threw the franchise head first into the action-survival-horror space, arguably pioneering the sub-subgenre, and while the faster, more streamlined pace worked there, it lost its luster in subsequent releases. Simply put, audiences craved a Resident Evil an experience that was truly terrifying. That's exactly it RE7 and he did so by several different means.
First, players are no longer thrust into the shoes of an international special agent, as they were in the last three games: Ethan Winters is pretty much a normal man simply looking for his wife, who has been reported missing. The game is removing the page Silent HillIn this way, players feel vulnerable through an “average Joe” protagonist who is rooted in a deeply personal and therefore more emotionally compelling mission.
Except for Ethan himself Resident Evil 7The shift to first person had some immediately terrifying effects. Naturally, it's easier to feel immersed in the haunted Louisiana mansion when you see it directly through the eyes of the main character. On that note, the disturbing, disgusting and tragic story of the Baker family is at the center RE7 it adds another layer of intimacy to the story, contributing to a compelling depth and heightened horror as the impact of death and monster transformations are more emotionally concrete. This is something that is a continuation of the game, Resident Evil Villageit loses a bit of focus, but it's still worth playing.
Why Switch 2 Users Should Play Resident Evil Village
Much praise was heaped up Resident Evil 7 apply to Resident Evil Villagethough this newer game is a much more outlandish and action-packed romp. It has moments of tense, atmospheric horror, including a particularly infamous scene involving an infant, but most Village is designed around large combat encounters, themed levels, and Lycan-inspired monsters.
Village lacks narrative simplicity Resident Evil 7and is slightly less scary as a result, but not necessarily worse. It's sure to give players a lot of work to do, as it feels more like a theme park with a variety of high-production attractions than a single, carefully curated experience. He brings a lot of new ideas to the table and that alone is worth it.
Resident Evil Village and his Rose shadows expansion serves as the finale to the short-lived Winters saga, which itself is largely responsible for co Requiem turned out to be. A more serious and cinematic tone, a return to horror basics, and the ability to play in first person helped the success of the Winters games, which in turn influenced the creative trajectory of the franchise as a whole.
That is unlikely Resident Evil 7 or Resident Evil Village will have a significant direct effect on events Resident Evil Requiem. But even so, the influence of those games can be felt in the overall design, style and tone Requiem— at least from what we've seen so far. So if you're a Nintendo Switch loyalist who missed out on these two games due to hardware limitations, it might be worth checking them out when they launch alongside them. Requiem later this month.
