Nintendo may not have much to announce on Mario Day this year, as all of its Super Mario pieces are already in place. However, GameStop will be celebrating a big day as it has announced a promotion that will get you cash off your next purchase if you show up at one of its stores on March 10th dressed as the world's most famous video game mascot.
In case you didn't know March 10th is Mario Day because the date looks a bit like a plumber's name, especially when it's styled like March 10th. GameStop is doing a few things this year to mark the occasion, including giving away store credit to anyone who shows up at one of its stores dressed as Mario on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

“Visit any store dressed as Mario and receive a $5 credit that can be used on any item in the store,” says a promotional image promoting the Mario Day event. That means you can use it to get $5 off your copy of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a brand new Nintendo Switch 2, or even something completely unrelated to Mario. People seem to like Resident Evil Requiem. Maybe pick up a copy of it for $5 less to see what all the fuss is about.

Be part of the world record attempt for the largest gathering of Marios
If you live near a GameStop on 14th Street in New York City, not only can you get moving on March 10th to earn store credit, but you can also take part in a Mario-themed world record attempt. The store will attempt to set a new world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Mario. Show up at 4pm EST dressed as Mario, and if enough like-minded gamers do the same, you could walk away from GameStop as the world record holder.
The event will include a DJ – likely spinning Mario tracks – and prizes, including a free Switch 2 for the best dressed Mario. It's unclear exactly how this will be determined, as I assume everyone involved will look more or less the same. Maybe start growing that mustache now because it might be what sets you apart from everyone else.
The event isn't officially affiliated with Nintendo, but I'm sure they appreciate the effort. Nintendo will officially celebrate the occasion as they revealed three more Mario games, two on Virtual Boy and one on Game Boy Advance, will be added to NSO on March 10th. As far as my wild speculation goes, we might get a final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie before it's release on April 1st, but I think anyone hoping for March 10th will finally be disappointed in 3D when we leave the next game.
