The popular trading card game from Wizards of the Coast has some big plans on the horizon, with a number of exciting expansions set to be released in the near future. Magic: The Gathering kicks off the new year with the introduction of Lorwyn Eclipsed on January 23rd, with seven different sets set to debut in 2026. Wizards of the Coast is also going all-in on one of its biggest new initiatives.

One of the leaked cards, “North Wind Avatar”, allows players to add “out-of-play” cards to their hand, a mechanic not currently included on any legal card in Magic: The GatheringStandard format. The mechanics are also similar to the “Learn” mechanic used in Magic's Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion, which is speculated to potentially return in the upcoming Secrets of Strixhaven.
Big changes are coming to Magic: the Gathering
