Genshin Impact Developer HoYovere Unveils New Open World Game

Developer Genshin Impact has revealed a new open-world game called Varsapura. The HoYoverse reveal arrived alongside a gameplay demo video that introduces players to the world Varsapura and its basic plot.

HoYoverse has seen significant success in recent years, such as hit games Genshin Impact launch in 2020, Honkai: Star Rail in 2023 and Zenless Zone Zero the following year. Although these live services are ongoing and still popular, the studio hasn't slowed down and is now set to debut another game.

HoYovere reveals the open world game Varsapura

HoYovere has now announced Varsapuraand showcased the title with a 31-minute gameplay demo captured in-game with an Nvidia RTX4090. The demo appears to take place early in the game, with the player character, referred to as Hollowone, trying out for a mysterious organization called the SEALs, or Shadow Emergency Alliance. According to the description, the appearance of the player's protagonist will change to “fit the preferences of each viewer”. Much of the plot remains a mystery, but the demo introduces concepts like the devastating Mindrot and something called Cognosea breach events. The player character briefly reveals her motives through dialogue options, suggesting that she wants to join the SEALs because an officer of the organization “killed her former self”.

After an initial period of exploring the SEAL offices, a tutorial combat section was revealed where the player character fought monsters with an umbrella she kept in front of the SEAL agent she was “killed” with. She uses quick punch combos with both her umbrella closed and open, allowing her to temporarily hang in the air, and at one point performs a power-up technique that looks almost like summoning Personas. Personality 3but uses her hand instead of Evoker. Her umbrella can also be used as a thrown weapon with automatic recoil and as a mode of transportation, as seen in one segment of her traversing a multi-level puzzle. So far, the game seems to bear a resemblance to Managementwith a decidedly creepy and unnerving atmosphere.

Stealth combat is also an option with automatic kill moves if the player manages to sneak up behind an enemy without attracting their attention. She also uses the ability to stun enemies, giving her a moment to approach if spotted. The real-time combat segments also feature two other characters, showing how they can swap quickly to continue combos or use their unique movesets to take down enemies. The end of the video shows some of the open world outside the SEAL offices, which players will be able to explore by car and on foot.

Unfortunately, Varsapura it does not have a release date at this time. At the end of the video, HoYoverse revealed that it is hiring for a number of positions to work on the game, including programming, design, art, and marketing. Judging by the fact that they're still looking for team members, it may take a while for players to get their hands on the HoYoverse's latest project.
