Genshin Impact Leak Reveals Big Changes to Citlali

Key things

  • Citlali face major nerfs in Genshin Impact version 5.3, shifting power to their higher Constellations.
  • Players may have to spend up to $1,500 for the C4 and signature weapon for 5-star characters.
  • The power of moving to Constellations can make new characters unavailable, costing the player a significant amount of money.

The latest build for version 5.3 brought big changes for the upcoming one Genshin Impact characters, with Citlali likely bearing the brunt of the nerfs. While Citlali quickly grew to become one of the most popular characters Genshin Impactthis level of popularity has some significant drawbacks. Expectations for her skill set are high, and the 5-star shield support probably doubles those expectations. Zhongli and Baizhu are a high standard to live up to, but there's a chance Citlali can make it.

Citlali skill set Genshin Impact it is designed with two main principles in mind: provide decent cryo damage in the field and apply elemental shredding for Melt and Freeze teams. As a Shield Support, Citlali also brings interrupt resistance to the table, but is easily surpassed by Zhongli in terms of her defensive value. On paper, this is a reasonable disadvantage, as Citlali can carry a new set of artifacts from Natlan that provide additional damage bonuses for Melt teams.

Genshin Impact Leak Reveals Big Changes to Mavuika

The latest beta version 5.3 comes with big changes to Mavuika's ability set in Genshin Impact and not all of them are positive.

However, according to HomDGCat, Citlali's skill set has undergone some major nerfs in the latest pro beta Genshin Impact. The information gleaned from the data reveals that her personal damage is essentially halved, as most of her attack value comes from her Elemental Burst, which causes a massive Melt detonation. Somewhat controversially, the change can be reverted via the fourth Constellation Citlali, which now provides 50% more Elemental Mastery to compensate for the nerfing of her base set. Since Mavuika v Genshin Impact also has a buff to his fourth Constellation, it would seem that HoYoverse is wondering if C4 can become the new stopping point.

Genshin Impact: Citlali Changes (V3)

Passives of Ascension

  • Itzpapalotl's Star Garments
    • During Dawnfrost Darkstar's Elemental Skill, Itzpapa's Frostfall Storm DMG is increased by 90% of Citlali's Elemental Mastery. During Elemental Burst Edict of Entwined Splendor, Ice Storm DMG is increased by 1200% (down from 2400%) Citlali's Elemental Mastery.
    • Additionally, when nearby party members trigger Nightsoul Bursts, Citlali regains 4 Nightsoul points.
  • Songs of deep mystery
    • When in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics in Natlan, triggering “Nightsoul Burst” will restore 20 Phlogiston.
      • Now limited to Natlan.
    • This cannot manifest in Domains, Trounce Domains, or Spiral Abyss.

Constellation

  • Heart Devourer's Travail (C4)
    • While Dawnfrost Darkstar's Elemental Skill is active, when Itzpapa's Frostfall Storm hits opponents, another Obsidian Spiritvessel Skull is summoned.
    • When this summoned Spiritvessel Skull explodes, it deals 1800% (from 1200%) of Citlali's Elemental Mastery as Nightsoul-aligned Cryo DMG and restores 16 Nightsoul points to Citlali.
    • This effect can trigger once every 8s. This DMG is not considered an Elemental Burst DMG.
  • Teoiztac's Secret Pact (C6)
    • Itzpapa summoned by Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar will always be in Opal Fire state, and when the Nightsoul points are depleted, this state will not end.
    • In addition, when Dawnfrost Darkstar is used, Itzpapa consumes all Nightsoul points, and while on the field will constantly consume Nightsoul points, granting Citlali 1 stack for every 1 Nightsoul Point consumed.
    • Citlali can have a maximum of 40 stacks. Each stack causes all party members to receive 1.5% Pyro and Hydro DMG bonuses and increases Citlali's DMG dealt by 2.5%.
      • Cryo DMG Bonus is removed.
    • When Itzpapa leaves the field or Citlali casts her Elemental Skill again, the stacks are reset.

Undocumented change to Citlala Genshin Impact means players will be immune to Freeze while her shield is active. Somewhat surprisingly, her sixth Constellation was also changed, removing all support for the Cryo element and opting to buff Citlali's personal damage instead. Due to the desperate state of the cryo characters v Genshin Impactthis action means that the developers are unwilling to address the situation until at least version 6.0 in September 2025. Given how little Genshin Impact players go for C6, it's ultimately a change that won't affect too many people.

Therein lies the crux of the problem: by moving the power out of Mavuika and Citlali's base sets and into their higher Constellations, the new characters will become unavailable to the vast majority of players. Assuming no entwined wishes are saved for this effort, it can easily cost up to $1500 to get the C4 and signature weapon for a 5 star character. To guarantee this result, players must save 1,040 intertwined wishes, an incredibly difficult feat when you factor in the average Primogem. Genshin Impact hovers around 80 moves per update. While there is still a chance that Mavuika and Citlali will see changes in the next two builds of 5.3, the current round of changes has not been well received by the community.
