God of War fans can't find Sons of Sparta's supposed 2-player co-op mode

Players are hard to find God of War: Sons of Spartaco-op mode, which is likely since it doesn't seem to exist despite the feature being listed on the game's official store page. While a lot of fans were excited about the surprise announcement God of War: Sons of Spartathose looking to enjoy its supposed multiplayer features may be out of luck.

God of War: Sons of Sparta was cast on players by a shadow following the PlayStation State of Play live presentation on February 12. Abandoning traditional franchise mechanisms, Sons of Sparta is a prequel set in ancient Greece with 2D side-scrolling gameplay. It doesn't have to be God of War fans of the game were expecting to see it, but there was an overwhelmingly positive reaction after its announcement, with plenty of players ready to immediately dive in to see Kratos' early life and years of training.

God of War Santa Monica studio has created many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos' gory PlayStation adventures are better than others.

God of War Sons of Sparta players cannot find the Co-Op option

However, one feature that was advertised on the game's official PlayStation Store page has eluded players as they haven't been able to figure out how to enable the co-op multiplayer option that was promised. Several reports from around the internet suggest that the store page listed two-player co-op as one of the new game's features hours after its official release, but those words don't appear to appear anywhere on the page anymore. Rather, the official description of the game on the store page portrays Kratos' tragic past, participating in harsh Spartan training and launching a rescue operation to rescue a missing friend.

Since the wording of the store page has been changed, it seems likely that the information about co-op play was a mistake, but fans of the series have already offered several theories about where it could be hiding before the words were removed. Some fans have speculated that players may have to complete the entire game in solo mode before unlocking the option to dive back into the two-player action. Since it's also listed on the store page as a fully offline game, some players expected couch co-op to be enabled, but plugging a second controller into their PS5 yielded no results. Others believe that co-op multiplayer can be added God of War: Sons of Sparta in a future update.

While the store page no longer lists co-op multiplayer as one of the game's features, it's not hard to see why fans might think it will be included. Several shots from the trailer shown at February's State of Play feature two different spear-wielding characters jumping and fighting monsters in different scenes. The store page confirms that the second warrior is God of War series character Deimos, who is also Kratos' brother, and player reports suggest that he appears during boss fights as a computer-controlled NPC. Deimos was first mentioned in the original God of War on the PlayStation 2, explaining that he was taken by the gods at a young age and made his first real appearance in 2010 God of War: Ghost of Sparta on the PlayStation Portable.

The apparent error on Sony's website has angered at least a few players, some of whom said they bought the game specifically because they believed they would be able to play it with a friend or family member. In response, several players are requesting refunds. Although disappointing for fans, the lack of co-op play is disappointing God of War: Sons of Sparta could prompt Santa Monica Studios to redirect their future efforts outside of single-player, especially with the canceled images God of War the multiplayer game from Bluepoint Games is still a fresh memory.
