Grounded 2 launched in early access last year, joining Obsidian Entertainment's assembled line of games released in 2025 alongside Open and Outer worlds 2. It's been a busy year for Obsidian, and the developer is also starting 2026 on a strong note. From Grounded 2 is still in Early Access, receiving regular updates to expand its content. Its December update already brought some great winter content to jump into, but the January update is set to be one of its biggest yet.
This upcoming update, officially called Toxic Tangle, entered the testing phase on January 15th. The Grounded 2 Toxic Tangle update adds a wealth of new features

The garden is home to new creatures, but not all of them are friendly
Exploring the garden and its many nooks and crannies looks like a lot of fun, but players still need to be careful. Wasps and wasp drones are part of the Toxic Tangle update with those familiar with the first Grounded they probably have memories of fighting pesky Wasps for the first time. They aren't easy to take down, but it will be interesting to see how Obsidian makes them more balanced Grounded 2. It might not be one of the hardest survival games out there, but it's still a tough fight. Other new creatures include:

Players eager to see Grounded 2The most impressive Colossus yet won't have to look too hard. The Snake Colossus has been confirmed to be found on the outer wall of the garden in the Croquet Court area of the map.
Grounded 2 expands its arsenal with new weapons and armor sets
Take on the many bugs and creatures inside Grounded 2 it requires the right weapons, and Toxic Tangle brings plenty of new options to choose from. The Cricket Lute Bow, Earwig Sword, and other unique weapons like Boom Sticks and Crimson Reapers are just some of the added options to help round out the player's arsenal.
There were many types of armor Grounded 2 since launch, but Toxic Tangle also brings other options to the table, such as cricket caps, snake hoods, potato chips and more. Grounded 2The 's Garden area is a lot of fun, but it also means that the survival aspect of its gameplay is kicked up a notch. So the number of weapons and armor included alongside the growing list of bugs will hopefully balance out the experience.
Unfortunately, experiments with acid sources have developed Tangwhich has covered the garden in “acid stains and caustic lakes” that need to be cleaned up as players explore the area.

If Obsidian starts the year like this, it sets a high bar for the rest Grounded 22026 updates that are available – especially since Obsidian games have been on the rise lately. Grounded 2The game's concept lends itself to some wonderfully creative and offbeat ideas, and Toxic Tangle is a great reminder of just how fun and inventive this game can be. As the first update for 2026, Toxic Tangle brings the game closer to completion, but there's still plenty of room for growth.
Right now, what comes after Toxic Tangle hasn't been fully revealed, but Obsidian has at least released a roadmap that hints at what to expect. The next big update should arrive sometime this summer. It doesn't have a name yet, but Obsidian has confirmed the addition of aquatic creatures, new bases, buggies and gear, all centered around water. Insanity Grounded 2's story is setting the stage for some amazingly weird items, so the summer update could have some cool stuff in store.
There are still plenty of ways to Grounded 2 it can improve, but it's off to a good start since its launch in summer 2025. in many ways Grounded 2 is better than Grounded. It may not be as fully fleshed out as its predecessor at this point, but knowing that more content and features are in the works is really exciting. Toxic Tangle is a game-changing update, and hopefully 2026 will be filled with even more game-changing changes. Obsidian's roadmap made it clear that the developers plan to bring as much as possible to the survival game in 2026, and it will be fascinating to see how the game looks on Grounded 2one year anniversary compared to how it was at launch.
