Despite tight security measures and mandates from Rockstar, we saw a massive leak of GTA 6 footage in September 2022. The leaker, Arion Kurtaj, was already out on bail for hacking and this offense landed him in jail in the UK. However, it seems that they have allegedly managed to smuggle in a phone and have just dropped another bombshell.
According to videotechuk_ (aka ben), Kurtaj claimed that the source code for GTA 6 is supposedly out in the wild, but hasn't been leaked yet. If true, it means one of the most anticipated games of all time could see cheap knockoffs very soon.
GTA 6 source code could reportedly be leaked soon
“Now word is slowly spreading: Arion Kurtaj (the infamous 2022 Grand Theft Auto VI leaker) allegedly smuggled a phone into a British prison,” the tweet said. “While I won't be sharing the screenshots of the WhatsApp chats (I'm sure they will appear soon), Arion seemed surprised that the source code for Grand Theft Auto VI wasn't leaked and seemed to suggest that the source code could potentially be in someone's hands.”
There are a few things to consider here. First, Kurtaj allegedly relayed this information from prison via a smuggled phone. This information is not exactly easy to verify. Further, while Whatsapp messages from Kurtaj suggest that someone has the source code of GTA 6, the screenshots have not been revealed yet. The recreated exchange shows the two users talking to the hacker, where he says the GTA 6 source code is “definitely out there somewhere.” He then asked if it had leaked online and declined to comment after being told it had not.
Given the size of the original leak, it's quite possible that the source code is in the hands of someone who shouldn't have it. Although it's hard to fact-check because of how this story unfolded. As for why the source code hasn't been leaked yet, someone is likely to pay big bucks for it if it is indeed leaked.
We'll be following this story and updating it as it develops.
