To celebrate the second anniversary of the release Helldivers 2Arrowhead Game Studios is revealing a free Eye of Liberty skin, though the response to the announcement seems less than enthusiastic. It was a strong start to 2026 Helldivers 2a complete turnaround from the second half of 2025, when players were frustrated with the current state of the game, full of technical and performance issues. Fortunately, Arrowhead was able to tackle many of the game's issues and addressed them with various updates to allow content updates to begin the current year.
Arrowhead has to pause new content later in 2025 to fix various technical issues. In fact, we've seen not 1, but 2 different premium Warbonds launch in the past few weeks Helldivers 2. The first was the secret Redacted Regiment Warbond, which added suppressed weapons, C4 and armor sets to help reduce noise and enemy detection. At the very opposite end is Siege Breakers Warbond pro Helldivers 2which favors loud inputs and destructive firepower to get the job done. To celebrate Helldivers 2 Arrowhead is set to release another piece of free gear after its second anniversary, though enthusiasm for it isn't nearly as high as the studio probably hoped.
Helldivers 2 players are heading to Cyberstan in the game's latest update
Arrowhead Game Studios is launching Machinery of Oppression, a major update for Helldivers 2 that will send players to Cyberstan to defend democracy.
Helldivers 2 releases the Eye of Liberty Cape for its second anniversary
After a successful launch two years ago, Arrowhead Game Studios is giving players a free celebratory reward known as the Eye of Liberty, a commemorative cloak. To unlock the Eye of Liberty cape Helldivers 2players will have to log into the game anytime between February 1st and the last day on the 28th. For those who qualify, the cloak will be released a few days later on March 2nd.
However, reactions to the announcement were mixed at best. Players were quick to notice that Eye of Liberty looks like a simple repaint of the previously released one Helldivers 2 a cape called the Eye of Freedom. Instead of a gold look, the Eye of Freedom was silver and was released alongside the B-22 Model Citizen armor set as a gift for the game's first anniversary in February 2025. Others noted that this year's bounty has no accompanying armor, with one user theorizing that gold-plated armor probably wouldn't be great for fusion attempts.
Arrowhead has a history of giving away new capes to commemorate various events Helldivers 2including a real world Steam review bombing campaign as players were frustrated with Sony requiring a PlayStation ID for the Steam version. However, this restriction was later lifted, and players actually bombarded the game with backranks to get their ratings back. Cape Pillars of Freedom was finally released to players in 2025, over a year after the incident occurred.

There were also more than a few comments demanding that Arrowhead Game Studios make the pre-order capes available for purchase in the in-game store and allow players who weren't there at launch, including those on Xbox, a chance to unlock them. Malevelon Creek's popular capes known as Fallen Hero's Vengeance have also received a lot of fan feedback. The cape was released after the liberation of Malevelon's Creek against the Automatons, a major event in the game that killed over 25 million Helldivers. The cape itself was released for a limited time back in 2024 and has yet to resurface. Based on the comments, many players would like to be able to claim the cape, some are even willing to buy it in the store. Since this is an item that represents a specific period in the game's history, it's unknown if Arrowhead would be willing to make it available to a wider audience or keep it exclusive to those who participated.
