The Game Awards 2025 ended somewhat controversially with the reveal of Highguard. A game no one has ever heard of, developed by a new studio made up of people who worked on Apex Legends. The most surprising of all was its release date of January 26, 2026, and almost a month after its reveal, the team is keeping quiet about it.
Geoff Keighley made a big deal about Highguard's release date being just around the corner, noting that the “last thing” at big events is usually reserved for a big game that's still years away. That slot went to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in 2024, for example, Naughty Dog's next big release that still doesn't even have a release year, let alone a date.
We haven't been shown anything more from Highguard since its reveal
You'd think that Highguard developer Wildlight Entertainment would have waited for this TGA reveal to heavily promote their debut game right after, but apparently not. It's been almost four weeks since Highguard was revealed, which means there's only three weeks left until the game's launch, and there hasn't been a peep of the game since its reveal.
Not just the ads, which I understand are pretty expensive – especially after you probably pay a lot of money for Keighley to come last at the Game Awards. Even on social media, there was no movement. Highguard has a Twitter account, but that account has been dormant since the game's reveal, when it shared a trailer and responded to several people who are excited about the game.
He also has less than 6,000 followers, which is not a promising sign.

Highguard did not make a good first impression.
People are starting to wonder when the Highguard Hype Train will leave the station
The lack of hype for Highguard made people wonder what was going on. “They dropped that trailer at TGA and then went completely silent,” wrote DXFromYT on Twitter, adding that they don't remember the game getting so little hype from Concord. Oddly enough, Highguard isn't getting any hype, but this particular Concord comparison isn't accurate. The failed PlayStation live service had plenty of hype, including an extended cinematic trailer and its own DualSense.
Some argued against those who asked to be shown more that it was pretty standard for a debut game from an indie studio. That the marketing push will start at or just before launch when we can actually play it. Others have argued against this argument that yes, although that is usually the case, seeing Highguard come last at The Game Awards for its reveal suggests that this is not the approach Wildlight is taking.
At the very least, you'd think the game's creators would be using Highguard's social media accounts to get the word out. Even if they don't have more gameplay to share or a new trailer, it would be nice to just have something to let people know that it's still coming in three weeks and that it's something people will want to play. It may not be fair, but as we've seen with other live service games recently, if their numbers aren't strong from day one, it's going to be an uphill climb.
